Reporting To: Deputy Medical Superintendent
Job Purpose
To provide high-quality physiotherapy assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and follow-up services to all patients, ensuring patient safety, comfort, dignity, and satisfaction. The Senior Physiotherapist will also coordinate and supervise physiotherapy services and ensure professional standards across all patient care activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment & Treatment
- Assess patients and develop appropriate physiotherapy treatment plans based on clinical requirements.
- Provide physiotherapy services to inpatients, outpatients, ICU patients, post-operative patients, and rehabilitation patients.
- Ensure appropriate documentation of assessment, treatment, progress, and follow-up.
- Patient Care & Politeness
- Handle all patients and their attendants with courtesy, patience, empathy, and professionalism.
- Maintain respectful communication and explain treatment procedures clearly to patients and attendants.
- Ensure patients are comfortable and treated with dignity at all times.
- Address patient concerns promptly and escalate complaints or clinical issues to the concerned authority.
- Quality of Physiotherapy Services
- Maintain high standards of clinical practice and patient care.
- Follow hospital policies, clinical protocols, infection-control practices, and safety guidelines.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of physiotherapy equipment.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and NABH-related compliance activities.
- Home Visit Services
- Coordinate and provide physiotherapy services for patients requiring home visits.
- Assess patients at home and provide appropriate rehabilitation and exercise programs.
- Maintain proper records of home-visit assessments, treatment provided, patient progress, and follow-up requirements.
- Ensure professional behaviour, punctuality, and patient confidentiality during home visits.
- Team Supervision
- Guide and supervise junior physiotherapists and physiotherapy staff.
- Allocate duties and monitor the quality of services provided by the physiotherapy team.
- Conduct training and provide clinical guidance to junior staff whenever required.
- Multidisciplinary Coordination
- Coordinate with doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals for comprehensive patient care.
- Discuss patient progress and treatment requirements with the concerned clinical team.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and timely patient treatment records.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly departmental reports as required.
- Ensure all physiotherapy registers and records are updated and maintained for audit purposes.
- Patient Safety & Infection Control
- Follow all patient-safety protocols and infection-prevention practices.
- Identify and report risks or adverse events related to physiotherapy treatment.
- Ensure safe patient transfer, positioning, mobilization, and use of therapeutic equipment.
- Professional Conduct
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Maintain punctuality, discipline, grooming, and professional conduct.
- Represent the hospital professionally while providing both in-hospital and home-visit services.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Patient satisfaction and positive feedback.
- Quality and effectiveness of physiotherapy treatment.
- Timely completion of patient documentation.
- Compliance with hospital and NABH standards.
- Number and quality of successful home-visit services.
- Reduction in patient complaints related to physiotherapy services.
- Team performance and staff supervision.
- Compliance with infection-control and patient-safety protocols.
Qualifications & Experience
- BPT / MPT from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant clinical experience, preferably in a hospital setting.
- Experience in inpatient, outpatient, ICU, post-operative, and rehabilitation physiotherapy.
- Experience in home-care physiotherapy will be an added advantage.
