Job Summary
The Fabrication Supervisor oversees and coordinates the daily operations of the structural fabrication workshop and onboard ship repair teams. This role is responsible for ensuring that all steelwork, piping, welding, and structural repairs are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in strict compliance with marine classification society standards (e.g., ABS, DNV, Lloyd's Register) and client specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervision & Work Coordination: Plan, assign, and supervise the daily tasks of fabricators, welders, and fitters engaged in ship repair and modification projects.
- Technical Execution: Interpret blueprint drawings, structural schematics, and welding procedure specifications (WPS) to guide the team in precise cutting, fitting, and alignment of steel plates and profiles.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct regular inspections of fit-ups, alignment, and completed welds before non-destructive testing (NDT). Ensure all work meets international maritime standards.
- Progress Tracking: Monitor project timelines and resource utilization, ensuring milestones are met during tight dry-docking schedules.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to shipyard safety protocols, including Hot Work permits, confined space entry procedures, and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Material & Equipment Management: Estimate material requirements, track inventory (steel plates, welding consumables), and ensure all fabrication machinery and tools are properly maintained and calibrated.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate closely with Project Managers, Marine Engineers, Quality Control (QC) Inspectors, and Ship Superintendents to resolve technical discrepancies promptly.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; technical certification or diploma in Fabrication, Welding technology, or Marine Engineering is highly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in heavy structural steel fabrication, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role specifically within the ship repair or shipbuilding industry.
- Certifications: * Valid welding certifications (AWS, ASME, or equivalent Marine Class certifications) are a major asset.
- Certified training in OSHA/Maritime Safety regulations (e.g., Confined Space, Hot Work).
Key Skills & Competencies
- Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of ship anatomy, structural renewal, plate forming, and various welding processes (SMAW, FCAW, GMAW).
- Drawing Interpretation: Exceptional ability to read and interpret complex marine structural drawings, ISO metrics, and offsets.
- Leadership & Communication: Strong leadership skills to manage a diverse, multicultural workforce under high-pressure, time-sensitive environments.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly troubleshoot structural alignment issues or welding defects on-site.
- Adaptability: Comfortable working in challenging environments, including tight enclosed spaces, at heights, and in varying weather conditions onboard vessels.
Working Conditions
- Must be willing to work extended hours, weekends, or shifts as dictated by emergency ship repair timelines and dry-dock schedules.
- Physical ability to climb ladders, enter tanks/confined spaces, and endure the noisy, heavy-industry environment of a commercial shipyard.
Pay: ₹45,000.00 - ₹55,000.00 per month
