The Opportunity
Sharma Enterprises is looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer – Mechanical to lead the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies. The position requires strong experience in product design, reverse engineering, manufacturing drawings, GD&T and coordination with cross-functional teams.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of mechanical components, products and assemblies.
- Perform reverse engineering of existing products using physical measurements, CAD modelling and engineering analysis.
- Develop accurate 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings and Bills of Materials.
- Conduct design reviews and ensure designs meet functional, quality and manufacturing requirements.
- Apply GD&T principles and perform tolerance-stack-up analysis.
- Coordinate with manufacturing, quality, sourcing and project teams throughout the product-development cycle.
- Identify and implement design improvements for better performance, manufacturability and cost optimisation.
- Resolve design- and production-related technical issues through systematic problem-solving.
- Support prototype development, testing, validation and design modifications.
- Maintain engineering documentation, drawing revisions and design records.
- Ensure adherence to applicable design standards and internal engineering procedures.
- Guide and mentor junior design engineers.
Required Skills and Experience
- Three to five years of relevant experience in mechanical product design and development.
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA or an equivalent platform.
- Good knowledge of AutoCAD or other 2D drafting software.
- Practical experience in reverse engineering and converting physical components into accurate engineering models and drawings.
- Sound knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis and engineering drawing standards.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, sheet-metal work and assembly.
- Experience in preparing BOMs and maintaining design documentation.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly principles.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and cross-functional coordination skills.
- Ability to independently manage design assignments and guide junior team members.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Experience in engineering, manufacturing, defence, aerospace, automotive or heavy industrial projects will be preferred.
- Candidates with hands-on experience in prototype development, testing and validation will have an advantage.
- Candidates residing in or around Pune will be preferred.
- Immediate or early joiners will be given preference.
