The PYP Homeroom Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and inquiry-driven learning environment that nurtures the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of students. The role involves planning and delivering the Primary Years Programme (PYP) curriculum, fostering international-mindedness, and building strong partnerships with parents and colleagues to ensure holistic student growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of the PYP Homeroom Teacher include, but are not limited to:
Teaching & Learning
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging inquiry-based lessons aligned with the IB Primary Years Programme framework.
- Develop interdisciplinary Units of Inquiry that encourage critical thinking, creativity, and conceptual understanding.
- Create a stimulating, inclusive, and student-centred classroom environment.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Foster student agency by encouraging choice, voice, and ownership of learning.
- Integrate technology effectively to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
- Promote the IB Learner Profile attributes and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills across all learning engagements.
Student Development & Well-being
- Monitor and support students' academic, emotional, social, and behavioural development.
- Establish positive relationships with students to promote confidence, independence, and resilience.
- Encourage positive behaviour by implementing the school's behaviour management and safeguarding policies.
- Identify students requiring additional support and collaborate with learning support and counselling teams where required.
Assessment & Reporting
- Assess student learning using formative and summative assessment strategies.
- Maintain accurate academic records and portfolios of student work.
- Prepare student progress reports in accordance with school and IB guidelines.
- Use assessment data to inform planning and improve student learning outcomes.
- Participate actively in student-led conferences, parent-teacher meetings, and reporting cycles.
Parent Partnership
- Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student progress and well-being.
- Build positive relationships with families to support student learning.
- Address parent concerns professionally and collaboratively.
Curriculum Planning & Collaboration
- Collaborate with grade-level teams and specialist teachers to plan meaningful learning experiences.
- Participate in collaborative planning meetings and curriculum reviews.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the PYP curriculum.
- Support school initiatives, exhibitions, projects, and co-curricular programmes.
Classroom Management
- Create and maintain an organised, safe, and engaging classroom environment.
- Ensure classroom displays reflect current units of inquiry and student learning.
- Maintain learning resources and classroom equipment responsibly.
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in professional development programmes and IB workshops.
- Stay updated with current educational practices and IB standards.
- Uphold the school's vision, mission, values, and code of conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities assigned by the Head of School or PYP Coordinator.

QUALIFICATION / REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Education or the relevant subject.
- B.Ed. or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- 2–5 years of teaching experience in Primary Years.
- Experience in an IB PYP school is preferred.
- Familiarity with inquiry-based and concept-driven learning.
- Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
- Proficiency in educational technology and digital learning tools.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
- Adherence to all organizational policies is mandatory.
- The elements contained in this job description are subject to amendment as the needs of the school/organization change.
- Any other duties that naturally and conventionally fall within the role of a PYP Homeroom Teacher and contribute to the effective functioning of the school.
- In addition to the above, responsibilities will include any other tasks or assignments delegated by the Principal, Head of School, PYP Coordinator, Management, or respective CXO from time to time.
