Qualification
- Diploma / ITI in Mechanical Engineering, Draftsman Mechanical, or equivalent.
- Certification in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, Autodesk Inventor, or similar CAD software will be an added advantage.
Job Summary
The Draftsman (Mechanical) will be responsible for preparing detailed engineering drawings, 3D models, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOM) for pharmaceutical process equipment. The role involves close coordination with Design, Production, Projects, Procurement, and QA/QC teams to ensure accurate engineering documentation and timely project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Drafting
- Prepare detailed fabrication, machining, assembly, and General Arrangement (GA) drawings using CAD software.
- Develop 3D models and convert them into manufacturing drawings.
- Prepare sheet metal, structural, piping, equipment fabrication, and skid layout drawings.
- Generate exploded views, assembly drawings, and installation drawings.
- Ensure all drawings comply with company drafting standards, customer specifications, and applicable engineering codes.
Drawing Management
- Maintain revision control and update drawings based on approved engineering changes.
- Organize, archive, and maintain engineering drawings and design documentation.
- Prepare drawing issue records and maintain document registers.
- Ensure timely release of drawings to Production, Projects, Procurement, and QA/QC departments.
Bill of Materials (BOM)
- Prepare and update Bills of Materials (BOM) and component lists.
- Verify material specifications, quantities, and part details.
- Coordinate with Procurement and Stores for material identification and drawing references.
- Support ERP BOM creation and engineering documentation updates.
Production & Project Support
- Provide technical clarification on drawings to Production, QA/QC, Projects, and Service teams.
- Modify drawings based on manufacturing feedback, customer comments, and site requirements.
- Incorporate approved engineering changes and maintain revision history.
- Support fabrication, assembly, FAT, installation, and commissioning activities by resolving drawing-related issues.
Documentation
- Prepare fabrication details, welding symbols, dimensional layouts, piping layouts, and installation drawings.
- Ensure compliance with GMP, ISO 9001, ASME (where applicable), and company quality procedures.
- Maintain accuracy, consistency, and traceability of engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, Autodesk Inventor, or similar CAD software.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, fabrication drawings, and General Arrangement (GA) drawings.
- Good understanding of fabrication, machining, welding, sheet metal, piping, and mechanical assembly.
- Knowledge of stainless steel (SS304 & SS316L) fabrication used in pharmaceutical process equipment.
- Familiarity with drafting standards, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), welding symbols, and engineering standards.
- Basic knowledge of Bills of Materials (BOM) and engineering documentation.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Experience
- Preparation of engineering drawings for pharmaceutical process equipment.
- Stainless steel fabrication and hygienic equipment design.
- Clean process piping, process skids, and pressure vessel drafting.
- Coordination with Production, QA/QC, and Project teams.
- Experience in GMP-compliant equipment manufacturing.
