Managing Editor – Publishing (Classes 3–12 & Higher Education)

Role Purpose
The Managing Editor is responsible for the end-to-end execution of the publishing programme, managing the complete editorial workflow from an approved publishing brief to the successful publication of each title. The role ensures that all books are developed, reviewed, designed, and published on schedule while maintaining the highest standards of academic quality, editorial excellence, and production quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct competitive analysis of assigned titles and recommend content enhancements and differentiating features.
- Develop book structures, author briefs, and editorial guidelines.
- Identify, onboard, and manage authors and subject experts; allocate titles in consultation with the Publishing Head.
- Review and approve sample chapters after coordinating peer reviews and incorporating editorial feedback.
- Prepare and monitor publishing schedules, track project milestones, and ensure timely completion of the annual publishing programme.
- Oversee editorial quality through editing, proofreading, fact-checking, curriculum alignment, and pre-production quality checks while maintaining editorial standards and SOPs.
- Coordinate with Design, DTP and Production teams to ensure high-quality layouts, timely delivery of print-ready files, and approval of final printer's proofs (ferro).
- Collate and analyse feedback from teachers, students, and the sales team to drive continuous improvement and revisions for future editions.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of editors, ensuring effective workload allocation, adherence to editorial standards, timely delivery, and continuous capability development.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master's degree preferred in English, Education, Science, Commerce, Mathematics, Publishing, or a related discipline.
- At least 15 years of experience in academic publishing, including at least 5 years in a senior editorial role managing multiple titles.
- Proven experience in publishing educational books for Classes 9–12 and/or higher education.
- Proficiency in both Hindi and English (written and spoken).
Skills & Competencies
- Editorial planning, developmental editing, copy-editing, proofreading, and quality assurance.
- Project planning, schedule management, stakeholder coordination, and author management.
- Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Technology-savvy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, editorial/project management software, and AI-assisted editorial tools to enhance productivity and quality.
Pay: ₹1,200,000.00 - ₹1,400,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
