The Assistant Librarian is responsible for supporting the smooth functioning of the university library by managing library resources, assisting students and faculty members, maintaining digital and physical records, and ensuring efficient circulation and cataloguing services. The role also involves promoting reading culture and supporting academic research activities.
Key Responsibilities:-
- Manage issue, return, renewal, and reservation of books and journals.
- Maintain cataloguing, classifications, and indexing of library materials.
- Assist students, faculty, and researchers in locating academic resources.
- Handle digital library systems and e-resources.
- Maintain library databases and records accurately.
- Support procurement and accessioning of new books and journals.
- Ensure proper shelving, stock verification, and preservation of library materials.
- Guide users regarding online resources.
- Conduct orientation programs for students on library usage.
- Coordinate with departments for academic resource requirements.
- Maintain discipline and proper environment inside the library.
- Assist in NAAC/NBA documentation related to library services.
- Prepare periodic reports and usage statistics.
Required Qualifications:-
- Master's degree in Library & Information Science from a recognized university.
- NET qualification preferred as per UGC norms.
- Knowledge of Library automation software such as KOHA or similar systems.
- Basic computer proficiency and knowledge of digital library management.
