This role requires a deep understanding of tagging structures, reading orders, and international accessibility standards like WCAG 2.1/2.2 and PDF/UA. Key Responsibilities Document Remediation: Manually tag and structure PDF documents to ensure logical reading order, proper heading hierarchies, and accessible tables. Compliance Validation: Ensure all documents meet WCAG 2.1/2.2 (Level AA), Section 508, and PDF/UA standards. Alt-Text Creation: Write descriptive alternative text for complex images, charts, maps, and infographics. Quality Assurance: Use automated tools (like PAC 2024 or Adobe Accessibility Checker) and manual testing with screen readers to verify compliance. Form Accessibility: Create and remediate interactive PDF forms, ensuring all fields are correctly labeled and keyboard-navigable. Optimization: Convert scanned documents via OCR and optimize them for accessibility without losing visual integrity. Technical Skills & Qualifications Software Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC (specifically the Accessibility and Content panels). Validation Tools: Experience with PAC (PDF Accessibility Checker), CommonLook, or Equidox. Assistive Technology: Hands-on experience using screen readers like JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver for testing. Standards Knowledge: Strong understanding of WCAG and ISO 14289 (PDF/UA). Office Suites: Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint accessibility features (as source files often start there). Experience: 1–3 years in digital accessibility or specialized data processing.
