Job Summary
The Electrical & Instrumentation Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, instrumentation, control systems, and plant equipment. The role ensures reliable operation of production and utility equipment while maintaining electrical safety, instrumentation accuracy, and minimum equipment downtime in a food manufacturing plant.
Key Responsibilities
1. Electrical Maintenance
- Carry out preventive and breakdown maintenance of electrical equipment and machinery.
- Troubleshoot motors, MCC panels, control panels, starters, contactors, relays, breakers, and electrical circuits.
- Inspect cables, switches, sensors, motors, earthing systems, and electrical connections.
- Attend electrical breakdowns and restore equipment safely and quickly.
- Ensure proper functioning of plant electrical systems.
2. Instrumentation Maintenance
- Maintain and troubleshoot field instruments, sensors, transmitters, controllers, and control devices.
- Monitor and maintain temperature, pressure, flow, level, moisture, and other process instruments.
- Troubleshoot instruments connected to PLC, SCADA, HMI, and automation systems.
- Assist in calibration and verification of instruments.
- Ensure accurate measurement and control of critical process parameters.
3. PLC & Automation Support
- Monitor PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems and identify abnormalities.
- Assist in troubleshooting PLC inputs/outputs and control circuits.
- Coordinate with automation engineers or external service providers for major automation issues.
- Support improvement and modification of automation systems.
4. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
- Follow preventive maintenance schedules for electrical and instrumentation equipment.
- Inspect equipment regularly and identify potential failures.
- Maintain equipment history and maintenance records.
- Support predictive maintenance activities wherever applicable.
5. Production Support
- Provide immediate technical support to the Production Department during equipment breakdowns.
- Ensure minimum production downtime due to electrical or instrumentation failures.
- Coordinate with Production and Mechanical Maintenance teams during breakdowns.
- Support commissioning and installation of new machinery and equipment.
6. Calibration & Process Control
- Maintain calibration schedules for critical instruments.
- Ensure instruments are calibrated as per defined standards and procedures.
- Maintain calibration records and certificates.
- Coordinate with QA/Production teams for process parameter accuracy.
7. Safety Compliance
- Follow all electrical safety procedures and plant safety rules.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before maintenance work.
- Ensure appropriate PPE is used during electrical and instrumentation activities.
- Maintain proper earthing and electrical protection systems.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions and electrical hazards.
8. Food Manufacturing & Hygiene Compliance
- Follow GMP, GHP, and food safety requirements while working in production areas.
- Ensure maintenance activities do not create contamination risks.
- Follow proper tool control and hygiene procedures inside food-processing areas.
- Support plant audits related to maintenance, electrical safety, and food safety.
9. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain electrical and instrumentation maintenance records.
- Record breakdowns, corrective actions, and equipment downtime.
- Maintain preventive maintenance checklists.
- Maintain calibration records and equipment history.
- Prepare shift handover reports and communicate pending maintenance issues.
10. Spare Parts & Tools
- Identify required electrical and instrumentation spare parts.
- Maintain minimum stock of critical spares in coordination with the Maintenance Department.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of electrical tools and testing instruments.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems.
- Good knowledge of instrumentation and process control.
- Knowledge of motors, MCCs, VFDs, starters, relays, and control panels.
- Knowledge of sensors, transmitters, controllers, and calibration.
- Basic knowledge of PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
- Ability to read electrical and instrumentation drawings.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of electrical safety and LOTO.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Educational Qualification
- ITI – Electrician / Instrumentation
- Diploma – Electrical / Electronics & Instrumentation / Instrumentation Engineering
- Equivalent relevant technical qualification may also be considered.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of relevant industrial experience.
- Experience in food manufacturing, FMCG, process industry, chemical, dairy, or similar manufacturing plants will be preferred.
- Experience in handling both electrical maintenance and instrumentation systems will be an advantage.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with PLC, HMI, SCADA, and VFD systems.
- Experience with temperature, pressure, flow, level, and other process instruments.
- Experience in preventive and breakdown maintenance.
- Exposure to automated food-processing and packaging machinery.
- Experience in 24×7 manufacturing plant operations.

Working Conditions
- Plant-based role with regular shop-floor presence.
- Shift duties may be required as per plant operations.

- Candidate should be comfortable working in a manufacturing/food-processing environment.
