Position Overview
ISG is seeking a leader to serve as Research Director for Marketing Technology, with expertise across software domains including, CRM, marketing automation, customer data platforms, SEO/GEO and related systems. This role will guide ISG’s consulting, advisory, research, and thought leadership portfolio in these areas, helping enterprises optimize people, processes, information, and technology.
The Research Director will drive market research of enterprises, software providers, and products to deliver high-quality insights and ensure the strength of ISG Research offerings. Success requires close collaboration with marketing, revenue, product, and client success teams to execute programs effectively and support enterprise clients. Working closely with analyst peers and research teams, the Research Director will ensure reliability, depth, and relevance across ISG’s product portfolio. Performance will be measured by three key objectives: Client Engagement, Market Expertise, and Revenue Bookings, supported by defined KPIs.
Responsibilities
The Research Director will lead the research agenda for marketing technology, working closely with analysts and the product team to apply both experience and subject-matter expertise. This role ensures the full value of the analyst team is realized across consulting, advisory, research, and thought leadership, and will represent the team in key products such as Analyst Perspectives, Market Perspectives, and the ISG Buyer’s Guides. A core responsibility is the analysis of software providers and the leadership of ISG Buyer’s Guides. The Research Director will also support ISG enterprise clients through advisory and consulting engagements, partnering with Client Success and Product teams to strengthen relationships, engage new and existing clients, and drive revenue growth.
This position will report to the Executive Director for Business Research.

This is a remote position located in the India

Travel is potentially 25-50%, with most of it to the United States

Provide thought leadership in the office of the CMO and marketing functions
- Build and maintain working relationships with software providers
- Guide enterprises and buyers on software categories and products
- Engage into research processes to ensure critical and timely research and client deliverables
- Collaborate with sales and client success teams to achieve revenue
- Participate in analyst leadership and team meetings to help improve and innovate processes
Required Skillsets

Overall 18 to 22 years of experience in Research Advisory.

At least 5 years of experience as a recognized thought leader, serving as an industry analyst and/or leading Product Marketing or Product Management functions at a recognized technology vendor. OR

Minimum 10 years of practitioner experience working with Sales and Marketing processes, platforms, and systems, combined with a strong consultative and analytical background, fast-paced company environment

Previous experience providing guidance in strategy and planning on marketing processes and technology

Knowledge of business technology industry in area of marketing related software

Demonstrated ability to engage with a well-developed point of view

Strong communication and collaboration skills with industry leaders

Experience in managing multiple priorities yielding positive results

Demonstrated writing and presentation skills are essential
Education

BA/BS degree in Communications, Marketing, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

An advanced degree (MBA, Master's, or equivalent) is preferred but not required.
