Position Overview
Regional leadership role accountable for end-to-end performance, throughput, and capability building of Core Processing Units (CPUs) across multiple states and cities. Owns processing efficiency, turnaround time, productivity, and accuracy across the regional sorting and document/parcel processing network.
Leads all CPU Heads within the region and drives standardization, automation, and infrastructure readiness to support network growth and peak volumes. Acts as the regional anchor for processing flow optimization, load balancing, and consistent operating practices across facilities.
This role operates as a regional capability and governance function, working in close partnership with line Operations, Network, and Engineering teams. It focuses on throughput optimization, infrastructure readiness, and process standardization rather than direct ownership of day-to-day site execution.
Job Purpose
To build and operate a high-performing CPU network by driving throughput, productivity, automation, and process standardization, while optimizing turnaround time and cost per shipment in alignment with regional service and efficiency goals.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute regional CPU strategy aligned to network flow, service SLAs, and business growth requirements.
- Translate national network and automation initiatives into region-specific execution plans.
- Benchmark CPU operations against industry practices and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Define and drive regional throughput and capacity plans aligned to volume projections and peak readiness.
People Leadership & Culture
- Lead and manage CPU Heads across the region, ensuring alignment to performance, productivity, and service goals.
- Build leadership capability, succession pipeline, and operational bench strength across CPUs.
- Drive engagement, safety culture, and compliance across all processing units.
- Conduct regular reviews, skip-level interactions, and targeted interventions in underperforming locations.
Operational Excellence (CPU Network)
- Own and govern throughput planning, load balancing, and turnaround time across all CPUs.
- Drive productivity improvements through standardization of sorting processes, manpower planning, and shift optimization.
- Establish and enforce standardized operating practices across all CPUs, ensuring adherence to SOPs, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor network flow efficiency, identify bottlenecks, and enable corrective actions across facilities.
Infrastructure & Capability Building
- Drive infrastructure readiness and capacity enhancement across CPUs to support current and future volume requirements.
- Provide inputs into facility design, layout optimization, and expansion planning.
- Ensure standardization of infrastructure and operating models across processing units.
Automation & Technology Enablement
- Drive adoption of automation solutions across CPUs, including sortation systems, scanning, and material handling technologies.
- Partner with Engineering and IT teams to deploy and scale automation initiatives.
- Track and deliver measurable benefits from automation in throughput, accuracy, and cost efficiency.
- Ensure sustained adoption and usage discipline of systems and digital tools across all CPUs.
Cost Optimization & Efficiency
- Optimize cost per shipment through productivity improvement, process efficiency, and infrastructure utilization.
- Drive transition towards variable cost models in facility management and operations.
- Identify and implement cost optimization opportunities without compromising service or compliance.
Stakeholder & Governance
- Collaborate with Network, Engineering, Finance, HR, Procurement, and central Operations teams.
- Ensure alignment between regional execution and national network strategy.
- Act as regional SME for CPU operations in internal forums and strategic discussions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (Engineering / Operations / Supply Chain preferred); MBA/PG desirable.
- Experience: 10–15 years of experience in operations, with strong exposure to sorting, hub, or processing operations at scale.
- Proven experience in managing multi-location operations and leading large teams.
- Exposure to automation, infrastructure planning, and network operations preferred.
- Preferred industries: Express logistics, 3PL, eCommerce logistics, high-throughput processing environments.
