Job Title: Internal Auditor for our Client
About the Client
Fast-growing premium gourmet food and grocery retail business based in Mumbai, with a flagship store, a multi-cuisine café and live kitchen, an e-commerce presence, and an expanding store footprint.
The Role
You will be our in-house watchdog — auditing the business from every angle: financial records, statutory and tax compliance, internal controls, and fraud risk. You will work directly with CFO and must bring complete independence, objectivity, and an eye for detail that misses nothing. This role covers all our stores — current, upcoming, and future.
Key Responsibilities
Financial & Ledger Audit
- Conduct regular, detailed audits of all ledgers and books of accounts across the business and every store
- Vouch and verify transactions, vendor and customer ledgers, cash, bank, purchases, and expenses
- Ensure accounting records are accurate, complete, and reliable — with zero tolerance for errors
Statutory & Tax Compliance
- Audit compliance under the Companies Act, 2013 (statutory registers, filings, related-party transactions, board/ROC requirements)
- Review Income Tax compliance — TDS, advance tax, returns, and applicable provisions
- Review GST compliance — returns, Input Tax Credit, 2A/2B reconciliation, e-invoicing, and e-way bills
Fraud Detection & Internal Controls
- Identify, investigate, and report fraud, suspicious or irregular transactions, and revenue/cost leakages
- Evaluate the strength of internal controls and recommend improvements
- Conduct surprise checks on cash, inventory, and other high-risk areas
Allied / Labour Law Compliance
- Audit compliance under allied laws including PF, ESIC, Professional Tax (PT), and NPS
- Ensure correct and timely deductions, deposits, and statutory filings
- Stay current on changes in applicable laws and flag any exposure
Reporting
- Prepare clear internal audit reports with findings, root-cause analysis, and actionable recommendations
- Report directly to management / promoters
- Track and follow up on the closure of audit observations
Multi-Store Coverage
- Perform all of the above across every store — existing, planned, and future — as the business grows
What We're Looking For
- CA (Inter) or M.Com / MBA (Finance) with strong internal audit experience
- Strong working knowledge of the Companies Act, Income Tax, and GST
- Familiarity with labour and allied laws — PF, ESIC, PT, NPS
- A forensic, investigative mindset with a sharp eye for irregularities
- Proficiency in Tally (or equivalent ERP) and advanced Excel
- High integrity, independence, and objectivity
- Strong analytical, documentation, and reporting skills
