Job Summary
The Nursery Manager is responsible for the overall management and smooth operation of the nursery, including plant production, staff supervision, inventory management, customer service, sales coordination, landscaping support, and maintenance of nursery facilities. The role ensures healthy plant growth, efficient nursery operations, high customer satisfaction, and achievement of business targets while maintaining safety and environmental standards.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Nursery Operations Management
- Oversee day-to-day nursery operations and ensure smooth workflow.
- Plan and manage seasonal plant production schedules.
- Monitor propagation, planting, watering, fertilization, pruning, and pest control activities.
- Ensure proper maintenance of greenhouses, shade nets, irrigation systems, and nursery infrastructure.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of nursery premises.
- Develop operational procedures for efficient nursery functioning.
2. Plant Production & Horticulture Management
- Supervise propagation of plants through seeds, cuttings, grafting, layering, and tissue culture (if applicable).
- Ensure proper soil preparation, potting mixtures, and nutrient management.
- Monitor plant health and identify diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies.
- Implement integrated pest and disease management practices.
- Ensure quality standards for all plants before sale or dispatch.
- Introduce new plant varieties based on market demand and seasonal trends.
3. Inventory & Stock Management
- Maintain accurate inventory of plants, seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, pots, tools, and other nursery materials.
- Monitor stock levels and coordinate procurement requirements.
- Reduce wastage and manage material usage efficiently.
- Maintain records of incoming and outgoing stock.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for timely procurement.
4. Sales & Customer Service
- Assist customers in selecting suitable plants and gardening products.
- Provide guidance on plant care, landscaping, and gardening solutions.
- Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and feedback professionally.
- Support retail and wholesale sales activities.
- Promote nursery products and seasonal offers to increase sales.
5. Landscaping & Project Coordination
- Coordinate landscaping projects and site maintenance work.
- Provide plant recommendations for gardens, parks, commercial, and residential projects.
- Supervise installation and maintenance of landscape plants when required.
- Coordinate delivery and transportation of plants to project sites.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Horticulture, Agriculture, Botany, Forestry, or related field.
- Proven experience in nursery management, horticulture, or landscaping operations.
- Strong knowledge of plant care, irrigation, pest management, and propagation techniques.
- Leadership and team management skills.
- Good communication and customer handling abilities
