About Studio Niche
At Studio Niche, we bridge material craftsmanship, contemporary aesthetics, and functional product design. We place high value on material experimentation, hands-on workshop development, and translating rich tactile concepts into refined physical products.
Role Overview
We are looking for a creative and detail-oriented Junior Industrial Designer to join our team. In this role, you will play a key part in bringing product ideas from early sketch concepts to physical prototypes and final production-ready designs. You will work closely with lead designers, workshop craftsmen, and production teams to explore diverse materials, develop 3D models, build prototypes, and prepare precise technical documentation.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Product Design & Ideation
- Develop, sketch, and curate innovative product ideas aligned with Studio Niche's aesthetic and design philosophy.
- Contribute to creative concept discussions, visual mood boards, and design proposals.
2. Material Research & Experimentation
- Explore and test diverse materials—including wood, metal, terracotta, resin, glass, and composites—to derive novel structural and surface solutions.
- Conduct studio-level material trials to understand finish options, durability, and tactile qualities.
3. Hands-On Prototyping
- Participate in workshop-level physical model making, mock-ups, and assembly for direct, tactile evaluation of scale, ergonomics, and proportion.
- Experiment with joining techniques, hardware integration, and assembly sequences.
4. 3D Design & Visualization
- Create accurate 3D CAD models, high-quality renders, and physical 3D prints for design validation and client/team communication.
- Prepare render assets for presentations, marketing material, and internal portfolio records.
5. Documentation & Technical Drawings
- Prepare production-ready technical drawings, 2D drafting schematics, dimensions, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Maintain organized documentation of design revisions, material specifications, and assembly guidelines.
6. Collaboration & Execution
- Coordinate continuously with internal design, studio, and workshop production teams to ensure smooth prototype development and execution.
- Mentor and guide design interns on daily studio tasks, workshop safety, and model-making workflows.
7. Progressive Learning & Ownership
- Gradually take ownership of material development and concept design directions while building a deeper understanding of production processes, detailing, and quality standards.
