Job Summary:
The Cath Lab Technician is responsible for assisting cardiologists and interventional specialists during diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac procedures. The technician ensures the proper functioning of Cath Lab equipment, maintains sterile conditions, prepares patients for procedures, and provides technical support to ensure safe and effective patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care
- Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures.
- Verify patient identity, consent, and procedure details.
- Assist in positioning and monitoring patients during procedures.
- Ensure patient comfort and safety before, during, and after procedures.
- Assist in transferring patients safely to and from the Cath Lab.
Procedure Assistance
- Assist cardiologists during coronary angiography, angioplasty, pacemaker implantation, temporary pacemaker insertion, peripheral angiography, and other cardiac interventions.
- Prepare and arrange all instruments, catheters, guidewires, balloons, stents, and other consumables required for procedures.
- Operate imaging and hemodynamic monitoring systems.
- Maintain accurate procedural documentation.
Equipment Management
- Operate Cath Lab imaging equipment and ensure proper functioning.
- Perform routine equipment checks before procedures.
- Report equipment malfunctions immediately.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and calibration of Cath Lab equipment.
- Maintain inventory of consumables and ensure adequate stock availability.
Infection Control & Safety
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques during all procedures.
- Follow infection prevention and control protocols.
- Ensure proper sterilization and disposal of biomedical waste.
- Adhere to radiation safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Wear radiation protection devices including lead apron, thyroid shield, and dosimeter badge.
Emergency Response
- Assist during cardiac emergencies and code blue situations.
- Prepare emergency drugs, crash cart, and defibrillator before procedures.
- Assist in CPR and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) when required.
Documentation
- Maintain procedure records and equipment logs.
- Record patient data accurately.
- Document usage of consumables and implants.
- Assist in preparing reports and maintaining departmental records.
Quality & Compliance
- Follow NABH standards, hospital policies, and departmental SOPs.
- Participate in quality improvement activities.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Attend departmental meetings and mandatory training sessions.
Qualifications
- Diploma/B.Sc. in Cath Lab Technology
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); ACLS certification is preferred.
Experience
- 0–2 years: Junior Cath Lab Technician.
Skills Required
- Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
- Familiarity with coronary angiography and angioplasty procedures.
- Operation of Cath Lab imaging and hemodynamic monitoring equipment.
- Radiation safety practices.
- Infection control and sterile techniques.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work under pressure during emergency cardiac procedures.
- Good documentation and record-keeping skills.
Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- On-call availability for emergency cardiac interventions.
- Exposure to radiation; strict adherence to radiation safety protocols is mandatory.
Pay: ₹10,128.68 - ₹15,320.71 per month
Work Location: In person
