APM Terminals Pipavav is one of India's leading gateway ports, strategically located on the west coast of Gujarat. The Marine Pilot is responsible for providing safe, efficient, and professional pilotage services for all vessels calling at APM Terminals Pipavav. The role ensures safe navigation within port limits, optimizes vessel movements and berth utilization, supports business continuity through effective marine planning, and contributes to maintaining the highest standards of safety, operational excellence, and customer service.
- Conduct pilotage of container vessels, bulk carriers, tankers, Ro-Ro vessels, project cargo vessels, and other marine craft safely and efficiently within port limits.
- Advise Masters on vessel navigation, berthing, unberthing, shifting, anchoring, and movement through approach channels and harbour waters.
- Ensure compliance with port regulations, IMO requirements, and Company procedures.
- Assess tides, currents, visibility, weather, under-keel clearance, and channel limitations before vessel movements.
- Support Marine Operations in planning and coordinating vessel traffic to maximize berth productivity and operational efficiency.
- Optimize vessel scheduling and tidal window utilization while maintaining safety as the overriding priority.
- Coordinate closely with VTS, Marine Operations, Terminal Operations, Tug Masters, Mooring Teams, Shipping Agents, and Port Authorities.
- Promote and maintain a robust safety culture aligned with APM Terminals, Maersk, and statutory requirements.
- Participate in marine risk assessments, incident investigations, emergency preparedness exercises, and safety audits.
- Support inspections and operational readiness of tugs, pilot boats, mooring launches, navigational aids, and marine infrastructure.
- Mentor, coach, and assess Trainee Pilots in accordance with approved competency frameworks.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with vessel Masters, ship operators, marine service providers, government agencies, and regulatory authorities.
- Respond to marine emergencies and participate in drills, exercises, and crisis management activities.
- Maintain accurate pilotage records, operational logs, reports, and statutory documentation.
- Participate in duty roster arrangements that provide 24/7 marine operational coverage.

- Certificate of Competency (CoC) Class I (FG) issued by DG Shipping or equivalent authority.
- Valid Pilot License or eligibility to obtain a Pilot License as per applicable regulations.
- Significant seagoing experience as Master on merchant vessels.
- Thorough knowledge of ship handling, bridge resource management, navigation, port operations, and marine regulations.
- Previous pilotage experience preferred.
- Advanced ship-handling and pilotage skills.
