Job Summary: A Senior Merchant in the textile and garment industry is responsible for overseeing various aspects of the production and supply chain process, from product development and sourcing materials to production planning and quality control. They play a crucial role in ensuring the timely and cost-effective delivery of high-quality garments to the market
Key Responsibilities:
Production units, Product Development
Sourcing: Identify and evaluate suppliers for fabrics, trims, and other materials. Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions
Production Planning: Develop production plans and schedules in coordination with into account capacity, lead times, and resource availability.
Quality Control: Establish and enforce quality standards and procedures throughout the production process to ensure the final product meets customer expectations.
Cost Management: Monitor production costs and work to optimize production efficiency without compromising quality.
Supply Chain Management: Coordinate the movement of materials and products within the supply chain, including logistics, shipping, and inventory management.
Communication: Maintain clear and regular communication with cross-functional teams, including designers, production managers, and sales teams, to ensure alignment and resolve any issues promptly.
Vendor Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure reliable and sustainable sources of materials and production capacity.
Market Research: Stay informed about market trends, consumer preferences, and competitive products to make informed decisions regarding product development and sourcing.
Budgeting: Prepare and manage budgets related to product development, sourcing, and production activities.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations, safety standards, and ethical sourcing practices.
Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor's degree in textiles, fashion merchandising, supply chain management, or a related field is often required. A master's degree can be an asset.
Experience: 6-8 years of experience in the textile and garment industry, including roles in production, sourcing, or merchandising. Experience in a leadership or senior role is typically required.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in using software tools for production planning, inventory management, and data analysis. Knowledge of textile materials and garment construction is essential.
Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiation and vendor management skills to secure favorable terms and pricing from suppliers.
Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with internal teams and external suppliers.
Problem-Solving: The ability to identify issues in the production process and develop effective solutions.
Market Knowledge: A deep understanding of market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive products in the textile and garment industry.
Project Management: Proficiency in project management techniques to ensure timely delivery of products.
