Job Summary
The Consultant – General Medicine is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to adult patients by diagnosing, treating & managing a wide spectrum of acute and chronic illnesses. The Consultant will ensure high-quality, evidence-based clinical care, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams & contribute to the organization's clinical excellence, patient safety & quality improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and manage patients presenting with acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Conduct detailed medical history assessments and comprehensive physical examinations.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory investigations, imaging studies, and other diagnostic tests.
- Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans based on current clinical guidelines.
- Prescribe medications and monitor therapeutic outcomes.
- Manage both inpatient and outpatient services effectively.
- Attend to emergency medical cases and provide timely stabilization of critically ill patients.
- Coordinate referrals and consultations with other specialties whenever required.
- Participate in multidisciplinary clinical discussions to optimize patient care.
Patient Care & Safety:
- Deliver compassionate, patient-centered medical care while maintaining the highest ethical standards.
- Educate patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, medication usage, preventive care, and lifestyle modifications.
- Obtain informed consent before procedures and treatment as applicable.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with applicable healthcare regulations.
- Follow hospital protocols for infection prevention, patient safety, and medication management.
Documentation
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely medical records.
- Prepare admission notes, progress notes, discharge summaries, prescriptions, and medical certificates.
- Ensure documentation complies with hospital policies, legal requirements, and accreditation standards.
Quality & Compliance
- Adhere to evidence-based clinical protocols and hospital policies.
- Participate in clinical audits, mortality and morbidity meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support NABH/JCI accreditation requirements and quality standards.
- Report adverse events, sentinel events, and clinical incidents as per hospital policy.
Teaching & Professional Development
- Mentor junior doctors, residents, interns, and nursing staff when required.
- Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME), workshops, conferences, and departmental academic activities.
- Stay updated with advances in General Medicine and evidence-based practices.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Participate in departmental meetings and hospital committees.
- Assist in implementing departmental policies and standard operating procedures.
- Support emergency preparedness and disaster management activities.
Qualifications
Mandatory
- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- MD (General Medicine) or DNB (General Medicine) – Mandatory.
- Valid registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or State Medical Council.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of post-MD/DNB clinical experience in a reputed multispecialty hospital. (Fresh MD/DNB graduates may be considered based on organizational requirements.)

- Fixed salary INR 150,000/- & additional pay for each case.
