The TIG Welder is responsible for performing high-quality Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG) on stainless steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and other alloys used in shipbuilding and marine fabrication. The role requires precision welding in accordance with approved welding procedures (WPS), engineering drawings, and quality standards while maintaining strict safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform TIG (GTAW) welding on stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and alloy materials.
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings, welding symbols, and WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications).
- Prepare materials by cleaning, grinding, beveling, and aligning joints before welding.
- Carry out root pass, fill pass, and finish welding with high-quality workmanship.
- Inspect welds visually to ensure they meet project quality standards.
- Repair welding defects as identified during QA/QC inspections.
- Operate and maintain TIG welding machines, gas cylinders, and welding accessories.
- Ensure proper use of filler materials and shielding gases.
- Coordinate with fitters, supervisors, and QA/QC inspectors to complete assigned work.
- Maintain welding consumables, tools, and equipment in good condition.
- Complete assigned jobs within project timelines.
- Follow company safety procedures and maintain good housekeeping.
Educational Qualification
- ITI in Welder Trade or equivalent.
- Valid welding certification is preferred.
- ASME, AWS, ABS, DNV, or Class-approved welding qualifications are an added advantage.
Experience
- 3–8 years of experience as a TIG Welder.
- Experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, offshore, marine, oil & gas, pressure vessels, or heavy fabrication is preferred.
- Experience welding stainless steel and aluminum is highly desirable.
Required Skills
- Strong TIG (GTAW) welding skills.
- Knowledge of welding metallurgy and joint preparation.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and welding symbols.
- Familiarity with WPS, PQR, and welding quality requirements.
- Experience using measuring instruments and inspection gauges.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights when required.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
