Job Summary
The ICU Resident Medical Officer (RMO) is responsible for providing continuous medical care to critically ill patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. The RMO assists the Intensivist in patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, emergency management, and coordination of multidisciplinary care while ensuring compliance with hospital policies, NABH standards, and clinical protocols.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities
- Assess, examine, and monitor critically ill patients admitted to the ICU.
- Implement treatment plans as directed by the Intensivist and Consultants.
- Perform detailed patient assessments and maintain accurate clinical records.
- Monitor vital signs, ventilator settings, arterial blood gases (ABGs), laboratory investigations, and patient progress.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies, Code Blue, and rapid response calls.
- Stabilize patients before consultant review and initiate emergency treatment as per protocol.
- Assist in admission, transfer, and discharge of ICU patients.
- Participate in daily ICU rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.
Procedures
- Assist or perform procedures within the scope of competency, including:
- Endotracheal intubation (where credentialed)
- Central venous catheter insertion assistance
- Arterial line insertion assistance
- Lumbar puncture (where applicable)
- Pleural tapping assistance
- Ascitic tapping assistance
- CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- ABG sampling
- Basic airway management
- Assist consultants during bedside procedures.
Documentation
- Maintain complete and accurate patient case sheets.
- Document clinical findings, treatment plans, progress notes, and procedure notes.
- Complete discharge summaries, referral notes, and death summaries where applicable.
- Ensure timely documentation of critical events and incidents.
Patient & Family Communication
- Communicate patient status to consultants as required.
- Counsel patients' relatives regarding ongoing treatment under consultant supervision.
- Coordinate with nursing staff and allied healthcare professionals for continuity of care.
Infection Control & Quality
- Follow hospital infection prevention and control policies.
- Adhere to hand hygiene and aseptic protocols.
- Ensure compliance with antibiotic stewardship and ICU protocols.
- Participate in clinical audits, mortality meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain compliance with NABH standards.
Qualification
- MBBS from a recognized medical college.
- Valid State Medical Council registration is mandatory.
- ACLS and BLS certification preferred.
Experience
- Fresh MBBS graduates may be considered as Junior RMOs.
- 1–3 years of ICU, Emergency, or Critical Care experience is preferred.
- Experience in ventilator management and emergency care will be an added advantage.
Required Skills

- Ability to interpret ECGs, ABGs, laboratory reports, and radiological investigations.
- Basic ventilator management skills.
- Competency in emergency resuscitation and ACLS protocols.
- Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR/HIS) and clinical documentation.

- Timely assessment and management of critically ill patients.

- Accuracy and completeness of clinical documentation.
- Response time during emergencies and Code Blue.
- Patient safety and quality of care.
- Effective coordination with consultants and nursing teams.
- Participation in quality improvement and clinical audit activities.
Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts, including day, night, weekends, and public holidays.
- On-call responsibilities for ICU emergencies.
- Exposure to critically ill and infectious patients.
- Mandatory use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to infection control protocols.
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
