Job Summary
The Librarian is responsible for managing the school library, promoting reading habits among students, maintaining library resources, and supporting teaching and learning through effective library services.
Key ResponsibilitiesLibrary Management
- Organize, catalog, and maintain books, journals, magazines, and digital resources.
- Ensure proper classification and shelving of library materials.
- Maintain library records, accession registers, and inventory.
- Monitor the issue and return of books and other resources.
Student Support
- Encourage reading habits and a love for reading among students.
- Guide students in selecting age-appropriate and curriculum-related books.
- Conduct library orientation sessions for new students.
- Assist students with research projects and information retrieval.
Teacher Support
- Coordinate with teachers to provide resources aligned with the curriculum.
- Support classroom projects, reading programs, and academic activities.
- Recommend and procure new books and educational materials.
Library Activities
- Organize book fairs, reading challenges, storytelling sessions, and literary events.
- Celebrate literary and educational events to foster reading culture.
- Create attractive displays for new arrivals and themed collections.
Administration
- Prepare reports on library usage, circulation, and inventory.
- Maintain a disciplined and conducive reading environment.
- Ensure the safety, upkeep, and security of library resources.
- Coordinate with vendors for book procurement and library supplies.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Library Science (B.Lib.Sc.) or Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (M.Lib.Sc.).
- Prior experience in a school library will be preferred.
- Knowledge of library management software and cataloging systems.
- Proficiency in computer applications and digital library resources.
