Role description
The Manager – Quality Assurance is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring the end‑to‑end Quality Assurance system for structural fabrication at ISB, ensuring compliance with approved drawings, project specifications, EN/ISO/IS codes, customer requirements, and statutory norms. The role ensures consistent quality from incoming material inspection through Cutting, Fit-up, Welding, Drilling , Surface protection, final inspection, and release, driving right‑first‑time delivery and continual improvement.
a) System Management:
- Preparation, review, and update of Quality Manual, Quality Plans, ITPs, SOPs, WPS, inspection formats, and quality records.
- Ensure document control, traceability, and effective record management across fabrication activities.
- Plan and conduct System & Process audits at periodic intervals
b) Material Control: Identification and tracking of all incoming raw materials and welding consumables.
c) Fabrication Quality Assurance - Monitor quality throughout the entire fabrication process, from Raw Material to final painting, ensuring adherence to technical codes, QAP and specifications.
d) Welding & NDT Control
- Review and approve WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
- Ensure in‑process and final welding inspection as per approved procedures and standards.
- Plan and control NDT activities (RT, UT, MT, PT, VT) as per applicable codes and ITP.
- Review NDT results, analyse defects and ensure corrective and preventive actions for defects.
e) Final Inspection, Release & Documentation - Ensure completion and accuracy of QA dossiers, inspection records, and traceability documents.
f) Improvement & Problem Solving: Manage non-conformance reports, analyse quality trends, and drive initiatives to continuously reduce defects and rework.
g) Team & Interface Management - Lead and guide the QA team, collaborate effectively with other departments (Production, Engineering, Planning, Stores, and HSE) to foster a strong, process-driven quality culture.
Skills
a) Drawing - Ability in reading & interpreting structural fabrication drawings, Knowledge of Welding Symbols, Drawing Projections,
b) Codes and Standards – Expertise on IS 7215, Well conversant with ASME Sec IX & V, Section VIII, AWS D1.1, Measurement techniques and Tolerances
c) Welding – Knowledge on WPS, PQR, WQT etc, Types of Welding Processes, Weld defects and its identification skill sets, In process parameters for Welding, Welding Inspection – Before, During and Post Welding
d) Raw Materials – Understanding on the grades and identification capability of RM defects
e) Process Flow - Knowledge of QAP/ITP, Quality Inspection of Structural Fabrication,
f) Documentation - Conversant with Quality Inspection Protocols and its documentation
g) Basic understanding of surface preparation & painting process and its inspection.
h) Others –
- Knowledge of QM / ISO 9001
- Understanding of Problem Solving and Root Cause Analysis
Other details
B.E. / B. Tech / in Mechanical / Structural Engineering
- Certified in ASNT NDT Level II
- Welding Inspector / CSWIP or any Welding Related Certification
