JOB SUMMARY
A value-added knitwear export company in Tiruppur is seeking a highly experienced Garment Dyeing, Washing and Special Effects Specialist to take complete technical responsibility for all garment-stage wet and dry processing—from feasibility assessment and sample development through recipe standardisation, bulk execution, testing and final approval.
The company regularly handles value-added processes including garment dyeing, acid wash, lava wash, enzyme wash, bleach effects, spray effects, laser treatments and other specialised finishes.
This is a senior, hands-on technical position. The candidate must be capable of developing effects, assessing garment and fabric suitability, controlling external processing units, reproducing approved samples consistently in bulk and preventing quality or delivery failures.
This is not a general washing follow-up or vendor-coordination role. Strong technical knowledge of garment dyeing, wet processing, chemicals, machinery and special-effect execution is compulsory.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Take complete technical ownership of garment dyeing, garment washing, surface treatments and special effects Assess the feasibility, risks, cost and lead time of each process before order confirmation Review fabric composition, yarn, knitting structure, garment construction, sewing thread, trims and accessories before approving a process Advise product-development and merchandising teams on whether a required effect is technically achievable in bulk Develop and control garment dyeing, pigment dyeing and other applicable dyeing processes Develop and control acid wash, lava wash, enzyme wash, stone effects, bleach effects, over-dyeing, tinting and other wash treatments Develop and control spray, placement effects, whisker effects, laser treatments and other dry or surface processes Possess working knowledge of ozone, resin, softener, silicon, vintage, faded, distressed, dip-dye, tie-dye, ombré and related value-added treatments where applicable Translate buyer references, approved samples and visual concepts into technically controlled bulk processes Establish and document recipes, process sequences, machine parameters, load sizes, treatment times and finishing requirements Prepare sealed development standards and approved bulk-processing specifications Ensure exact continuity between development sample, size set, pre-production sample and bulk production Control external garment-dyeing, washing, spray and laser units for quality, capacity, delivery and compliance Visit processing units during critical trials and bulk production rather than relying only on verbal updates Plan batch sizes and lot segregation to maintain shade and effect consistency Approve the first bulk batch before allowing the remaining quantity to proceed Establish acceptable shade bands, effect tolerances and appearance standards before bulk execution Control shade variation, batch-to-batch variation, panel variation, patchiness, crease marks and uneven effects Control garment measurements, shrinkage, spirality, torque, hand feel, pH, colour fastness and dimensional stability after processing Prevent seam damage, holes, abrasion, strength loss, puckering, thread damage and excessive garment distortion Assess the compatibility of buttons, zippers, drawcords, elastics, labels, prints, embroidery and other trims with the proposed treatment Coordinate with printing and embroidery teams where processing may alter colour, adhesion, appearance or performance Control spray and laser placement, intensity, artwork, repeatability and garment safety Ensure garments are properly segregated, identified and traceable by lot, shade and processing batch Review internal and external laboratory-test results before final approval Ensure compliance with buyer RSL/MRSL requirements, chemical restrictions, worker-safety requirements and environmental standards Coordinate with compliance teams regarding approved chemicals, chemical storage, handling and processing-unit authorisation Diagnose failed samples or bulk lots and establish the correct technical root cause Decide whether affected garments can be safely reprocessed without compromising strength, quality or buyer requirements Prevent repeated reprocessing that may damage garments or conceal underlying failures Raise technically supported claims and debit recommendations against processing vendors Monitor process cost, process loss, rejection, rework and vendor performance Maintain recipe records, approval standards, batch details, test reports, inspection reports and supplier-performance records Provide advance warning of technical, quality, capacity or delivery risks Submit clear daily and weekly status reports covering each style, process, quantity, location, approval status, risk and completion date Coordinate closely with merchandising, fabric, product development, sampling, quality, production and finishing teams
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- Diploma or degree in Textile Chemistry, Textile Processing, Textile Technology, Garment Technology or a related field Minimum 12–15 years of hands-on experience in garment dyeing, garment washing and special-effect processing At least 4 years in a Washing Manager, Garment Dyeing Manager, Wet Processing Manager, Technical Manager or comparable senior position Strong practical knowledge of garment dyeing and value-added treatments on knitted garments Proven experience with acid wash, lava wash, enzyme wash, bleach effects, sprays and laser treatments Strong knowledge of chemicals, recipes, machines, process sequences and bulk-processing parameters Ability to interpret buyer references and reproduce approved visual effects consistently in bulk Strong understanding of the effect of wet processing on shade, measurements, shrinkage, strength, seams, trims and garment appearance Experience developing and processing premium or fashion-oriented knitwear for international buyers Experience controlling multiple external washing and processing units in Tiruppur is strongly preferred Ability to diagnose technical failures and challenge vendor explanations using evidence Strong understanding of colour fastness, pH, dimensional stability and applicable garment tests Knowledge of buyer chemical-compliance requirements and safe processing practices Strong vendor-control, documentation, costing and reporting ability Working knowledge of Tamil and English Must be willing to work full-time from Tiruppur and visit processing units during trials and critical bulk execution
REPORTING AND AUTHORITY
The position will report to the Factory Operations Head/management and will work independently from the fabric-dyeing function.
The Garment Processing Head must approve:
- Process feasibility before order confirmation Development recipe and approved appearance standard First bulk batch before balance bulk execution Final processed garments before transfer to finishing or packing
No bulk garment-processing lot should proceed solely on a vendor’s verbal confirmation.
COMPENSATION
Senior compensation, fully negotiable for an exceptional candidate and based on technical expertise, product exposure and previous responsibilities.
