Senior POS Developer – Legacy POS Modernization

About the Role
We are hiring experienced POS Developers with strong background in legacy POS systems, POS modernization, and enterprise retail technology. This role is ideal for developers who have worked on complex retail POS environments involving terminals, self-checkout, mobile POS, pin pad integrations, Java-based frameworks, and modernization initiatives.
We are specifically looking for candidates who have hands-on experience with Toshiba ACE or similar legacy POS platforms and the ability to work on both existing legacy systems and modern greenfield applications.
This is not a basic Java developer role. We are looking for candidates who understand retail POS architecture, store systems, payment device integrations, and modernization of legacy POS platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Work on legacy POS systems and POS modernization initiatives.
- Develop, enhance, and support Java-based POS applications.
- Work with terminal POS, self-checkout, and mobile POS systems.
- Support integrations involving pin pads, store systems, and POS frameworks.
- Contribute to modernization efforts using microservice architecture and React.
- Help design and build greenfield applications, including AI-enabled applications where applicable.
- Collaborate with technical teams to understand existing ACE-based systems and modernize components where needed.
- Troubleshoot complex POS, store integrator, and payment device interface issues.
Required Experience
Candidates must have strong experience in several of the following areas:
- Legacy POS development experience.
- Experience working with Toshiba ACE POS or similar enterprise retail POS systems.
- Java development experience in enterprise environments.
- POS terminal, self-checkout, and mobile POS knowledge.
- Pin pad integration experience.
- Microservice architecture experience.
- React experience.
- Experience working with modernization projects involving legacy applications.
- Ability to understand complex existing systems and contribute to new modern architecture.
- Strong problem-solving skills in retail technology environments.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate has worked on enterprise retail POS systems and understands how store technology works beyond just writing code. You should be comfortable working with legacy systems, payment interfaces, store integrator frameworks, and modernization initiatives.
You should be able to communicate clearly, work independently in a remote environment, and provide examples of past POS or retail technology projects.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Strong Java development experience.
- Hands-on POS development experience.
- Experience with legacy POS systems, preferably Toshiba ACE.
- Understanding of POS terminals, self-checkout, mobile POS, or payment device integrations.
- Ability to work remotely with strong ownership and communication.
