Job Description
Position Title
Quality Manager
Department
Quality
Reports To
Chief Executive Officer (Accountable Manager) on all quality matters; Engineering Manager, Indore, for day-to-day administration.
Direct Reports
- None direct — leadership by influence, not headcount.
- Dotted-line functional authority over the nominated Quality Representatives for Part 21 Production, Part 145 Repair Centre (Brisbane) and Engineering, and over any team member performing a process inspection or other quality assurance task.
Position Overview
The Quality Manager owns the Microair Avionics quality function globally, covering Part 21 production quality at the Brisbane factory, Part 145 quality at the Brisbane repair centre, and engineering quality across software, hardware, systems and safety.
Each department is responsible for the quality of its own output and owns its own processes; this role owns the systems that assure that quality — keeping the QMS current as processes change, ensuring people are trained to follow them, and confirming compliance through internal audit.
Anyone performing a process inspection or quality assurance task does so on behalf of Quality, on a dotted line to this role, so issues can be reported independently of the department manager.
Based in Indore and part-time at this stage, at two to three days per week, the role holds a single AS9100-certified system satisfying CASA, the FAA, EASA and aircraft OEM customers.
Key ResponsibilitiesQuality Management System
Own the global AS9100 QMS and its controlled document structure. Departments own and review their own processes; this role ensures changes are incorporated into the QMS rapidly and that each process is supported by training material people can follow.
AS9100 Certification
Maintain Microair's AS9100 certification as a standing obligation — manage the certification body relationship, keep scope and evidence current, prepare and host surveillance and recertification audits, and close findings on time.
Engineering Quality
Own the assurance system over engineering — process audits, deliverable and evidence reviews and transition criteria against DO-178C, DO-254, ARP4754B, ARP4761A and DO-160 — with the nominated engineering quality representative acting on its behalf.
Part 21 Production Quality
Act as the accountable quality authority for the Brisbane production organisation, with the Operations Manager — production approval obligations, first article and conformity control, non-conforming product, concessions and supplier quality, covering TSO/ETSO articles and held STCs.
Part 145 Quality
Act as the accountable quality authority for the Brisbane repair centre — maintenance organisation exposition, capability and scope control, tooling and calibration, human factors, records, and release-to-service discipline.
Internal Audit Programme
Plan, schedule and personally conduct internal and supplier audits across all sites as a qualified auditor; confirm QMS compliance through the audit programme and produce evidence-based findings closed on time.
Regulatory Interface
Serve as the primary quality contact to CASA, the FAA, EASA, the AS9100 certification body and third-party auditors; prepare the organisation for audits, host them, and drive findings to closure.
OEM Customer Quality
Own the quality relationship with aircraft OEM customers — customer audits, quality clauses and flow-downs, scorecards, escapes, 8D responses and quality notifications — representing Microair credibly to demanding customer quality organisations.
Corrective Action
Own the non-conformance, corrective action and continuous improvement system; ensure root cause analysis is genuine and effectiveness verified, with actions executed by the owning department and systemic issues escalated with evidence.
Quality Metrics
Identify, establish and track the small set of quality metrics that move real business outcomes — escapes, rework, on-time compliant delivery, audit finding trends, corrective action cycle time — and report them independently with interpretation and recommended action.
Leadership by Influence
Set standards, competence requirements and cadence for the nominated quality representatives across production, the repair centre and engineering, tasking their assurance activity and reviewing their output.
Maintain an independent reporting route for quality issues, and travel to Brisbane to support audits.
