Key Responsibilities
- Route Navigation: Follow a precise, scheduled route and time table to pick up and drop off students at designated authorized stops.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Perform mandatory pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections (checking brakes, lights, tires, and fuel) and report mechanical issues to the transport manager. [1, 2]
- Student Safety & Discipline: Ensure a calm, orderly environment while driving. Enforce bus rules, manage unruly behavior, and report disciplinary issues to school administrators.
- Special Trips: Transport students and teachers to off-campus activities, sports tournaments, and field trips.
- Communication: Update parents and school staff on route delays and maintain a professional, courteous demeanor.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Licensing: A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with specific passenger and school bus endorsements.
- Clean Driving Record: No at-fault accidents or serious traffic violations within the last 5 years.
- Background Checks: Ability to pass a thorough background check, drug/alcohol screenings, and physical examinations.
- First Aid & Training: First aid certifications and government-certified driver training programs are frequently required.
- Interpersonal Skills: Proven patience, a positive attitude, and experience working with children.
