Job Description:

1)Implementation of safety fatality prevention program in the Fabrication Plant, Extrusion & warehouse PBU

(To build a strong Safety culture in Extrusion & warehouse PBU, with the objective to further strengthen the safety system to provide a safe working environment to employees, contractors, and associates)

Ensure that various safety standards rolled out by the company for the prevention of fatality is being implemented by the task forces as well as line management.
Provide necessary training as well as guidance for the implementation of safety standards, which includes Work at Height, Electrical Safety, Chemical safety, Material Handling, Confined Space, Contractor Safety Management, BBSO etc.
Ensuring the functioning of Extrusion & warehouse PBU Plant Safety Committee by conducting its meeting and ensuring the compliances of action points discussed during the meeting.
Carry out the audit and inspection inside the plant along with team members and apprise the plant management on the audit findings. Further, ensuring its compliances through regular monitoring, review and follow up.
Providing latest and best quality safety PPEs to the team and ensuring its compliances on shop floor.
Ensure Category 4 & 5 incident to be get investigated through Taproot.
Supporting in development of SMEs (subject matter expert) inside the pant, who can further train the other team members and contribute in implementation of HINDALCO safety standards.
Provide necessary assistance to the team in preparing the action plan to reduce the incident and further reviewing its compliances to avoid the reoccurrences of the incident.
Ensure operational discipline is being maintained/implemented at shop floor by the team
Ensure the compliances of directives received from the Corporate Apex Safety Board.

2) Managing Risk and ensuring safe work execution

(To get review of risk assessment for all the activities for their adequacy)

Provide necessary assistance to the team in assessing the risk & hazards associated with the activities being carried out in the Extrusion & warehouse and ensure effective control measures are being implemented at shop floor.
Ensure risk assessment is an integral part of Permit to Work System in day-to-day activities and its requirement is being not only communicated to the working group in detail but also further implemented in true spirit during the work by the performing authority.
Periodic visits to different locations of the plant and assist the line function in improving their working condition and safe working procedure.
Coordinating & conducting Gap Analysis, Risk Assessment and Developing Actions Plan & Following up in accordance to HINDALCO Standard
Reviewing of risk assessments, control measures and operating procedures (SOP/SMP, SWI) as and when required and further ensure its effective implementation.

3)Incident Investigation

To reduce the incident in Extrusion & warehouse PBU and ensure the horizontal deployment of applicable recommendations to avoid the reoccurrences

Ensuring reporting of incident to concern person/department as well as statutory authority in the prescribed form on time.
Ensure incident is investigated by the multifunctional team to find out the root causes and further implementation of recommendations horizontally to avoid its re-occurrences
Ensure incident is shared among the team members through safety alerts and one point lesson (OPL)
Analyze the previous incident data and prepared action plan to avoid the re-occurrences of incident
Provide necessary input to the legal & HR/IR team post incident if situation arises

4.) Sustaining safety through cultural change

(To build a strong Safety culture in the Extrusion & warehouse PBU with the objective to improve behavior of the individual, who can further be the safety champion to influence others)

Support effective implementation of the BBSO standard through its monitoring and improvise quality.
Being visible in workplace; upholds standards of performance and behaviors by “don’t walk by”
Assisting team in identification of cat 4 &5 observations and further establishing the action plan for its compliances
Ensuring safety inspection of the running facilities is being carried out by team as per the BBSO schedule and all the safe and at-risk behaviors/condition is reported and further analyzed for appropriate action
Reviewing the performance on BBSO/NM reporting

5) Digitization in safety for process improvement

(To make the ongoing operational process and hazardous activities safer through implementation of the latest technology/ equipment)

To drive ideation towards ease of work practices for long term sustainability in Extrusion & warehouse PBU.
Find creative solutions by modernizing/digitization of the hazardous process/activities being carried out through RCA/ Kaizen, which can reduce/eliminate the hazards and make the process safer.
Executing strategic / large scale improvement initiatives for long term sustainable projects.
Work closely with the corporate digital team and plant improvement cell for the implementation of digital project on time.
Provide input to the plant team on latest innovation in safety products/PPEs and further its implementation on shopfloor.
Provide input on changes in system requirement which is compulsory for certification of PPEs as per either Indian or European standard.

6)People development and their engagement in safety program

(To improve not only domain knowledge/job skill of employees & contract personnel but also their mindset for safe behaviors during work by practicing BBS Technique)

Assist the team in identifying skill-based training needs of the individual/s
Ensuring safety training is provided to concerned person as per training calendar and further evaluation of their knowledge/ skill level.
Assisting team in identifying the SMEs (subject matter experts) on various safety standards and providing adequate training to them and further ensuring their involvement in implementing the safety systems in their domain.
Ensure implementation of Behaviour Based Safety (BBS), reviewing the performance of BBS task force on monthly basis. Provide necessary support, if required.
Ensure reporting of Near Miss, Unsafe Act & Condition by the plant team through software module i.e ENABLON and providing advice to the management to further strengthen it.
Organizing various safety awareness campaign to sensitize the employees on safety matters
Enhancing motivation and engagement of members for productive work and maintaining harmonious relationship among the team.
Engaging in daily grievance redressal management system.
Continuous thrust on Reward and recognition for people.

7)Improvement in contractor safety performance

(To enhance the performance of contract agency engaged for company’s job)

Ensure Contractor Safety Management (CSM) procedure is being implemented by the CSM Task Force Team in latter and spirit,
Identification of FCA (Field Contract Administrator) and providing adequate training to them.
Providing support to the CSM Team in standardization of equipment/gadgets and PPEs being used by the contract agency. Further, preparing technical specification of these equipment’s/gadgets & PPEs.
Ensuring safety training to the contract personnel.
Ensure system is in place for inspection of the contact agency job and their workplace. Providing necessary input to the management for further necessary action to improve their work system.
Review the safety performance of all contract agencies on regular basis, communicating the weakness/lagging points to the plant management and further providing necessary advice to the management for the compliances of the identified action points
Establishing system for reward & recognition for the contract agency/personnel.

8)Statutory Compliances

(To ensure the statutory compliances applicable to plant oepration)

Assist plant team in identifying statutory requirements pertaining to safety
Interpret and apply applicable laws, codes, regulations, and guidelines as per State rules.
Create awareness and sensitization in the plant for its compliances.
Create a legal MIS (safety related) covering notices, inspection reports, orders etc.
Submit all the reports on time to the concern statutory authority.

5) Role Specific Competencies

Technical competencies

Diploma in Electrical/ Mechanical/ Metallurgy etc. engineering with adequate years of experience.
Advance Diploma in Industrial Safety from recognized institute/ technical board
Domain knowledge of safety management system and should have working experience in large scale process industry
Understanding of ISO 45001: 2018
Understanding of Aluminium production process, quality systems and certification processes
