Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and trustworthy Gold Appraiser to accurately assess gold jewellery based on purity, weight, authenticity, and current market value. The candidate will be responsible for conducting gold tests, calculating valuations, maintaining accurate records, handling customer jewellery safely, and ensuring all appraisal activities follow company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine gold jewellery and ornaments to determine purity, quality, authenticity, and condition.
- Accurately weigh gold using calibrated weighing machines.
- Conduct gold purity tests using Touchstone, Acid Test, Karat Meter, XRF Machine, or other approved methods.
- Identify different gold karats such as 18K, 20K, 22K and 24K.
- Check BIS Hallmark, purity marks, stamps, and other identification marks where applicable.
- Calculate gross weight, stone weight, net gold weight, purity, and final valuation accurately.
- Perform proper stone deduction and other applicable deductions according to company procedures.
- Identify imitation, plated, mixed-metal, counterfeit, or suspicious jewellery.
- Calculate the value of gold based on the current company gold rate and applicable valuation procedures.
- Explain the appraisal and valuation clearly and professionally to customers.
- Handle customer jewellery carefully and securely during the appraisal process.
- Record all appraisal details accurately in the company system/app and maintain proper documentation.
- Maintain confidentiality of customer information and transaction details.
- Report suspicious or fraudulent jewellery immediately to the Branch Manager / Management.
- Coordinate with the Branch Manager and other departments for smooth branch operations.
- Maintain and handle appraisal equipment properly and report any equipment issues.
- Follow all company SOPs, security procedures, compliance requirements, and safety guidelines.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, honesty, integrity, and customer service.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of gold purity and jewellery appraisal.
- Practical knowledge of gold testing methods.
- Knowledge of stone deduction and net weight calculation.
- Good mathematical and analytical skills.
- Ability to identify suspicious or non-genuine jewellery.
- Good knowledge of current gold valuation practices.
- Good customer-handling and communication skills.
- Basic computer and mobile application knowledge.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle valuable jewellery responsibly.
- Honest, trustworthy, and reliable.
Educational Qualification
- 10th / 12th / Any Degree.
- Jewellery Appraiser / Gold Appraiser certification or relevant training will be an advantage.
Experience
- 0–3 years of relevant experience in:
- Gold Appraisal
- Gold Buying
- Gold Loan
- Jewellery Industry
- Pawn / Finance Industry
Freshers with relevant Gold Appraiser training/certification may also be considered.
Preferred Candidate
Candidates with hands-on experience in gold purity testing, XRF/Karat Meter, Touchstone and Acid Testing, stone deduction, gold valuation, and customer handling will be preferred.
