The Safety Incharge is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment within the Electric Bus Depot by implementing and monitoring safety policies, conducting regular inspections, organizing safety training, investigating incidents, and ensuring compliance with statutory and company safety standards. The role focuses on preventing accidents, protecting employees, and promoting a strong safety culture across all depot operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, SOPs, and applicable statutory regulations.
- Conduct daily safety inspections of the depot, workshop, charging area, parking yard, and other operational locations.
- Identify unsafe acts and unsafe conditions and initiate immediate corrective and preventive actions.
- Organize regular Safety Toolbox Talks (TBT), Driver Development Training (DDT), safety awareness sessions, and emergency drills.
- Monitor driver safety practices, including seat belt usage, speed compliance, defensive driving, and adherence to traffic rules.
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all employees and contractors.
- Conduct incident, accident, and near-miss investigations and prepare detailed investigation reports with root cause analysis.
- Maintain records of accidents, incidents, safety observations, inspections, and corrective actions.
- Coordinate emergency response activities, including fire safety, first aid, evacuation drills, and disaster management.
- Inspect fire extinguishers, emergency exits, first aid boxes, spill kits, and other emergency equipment to ensure readiness.
- Monitor electrical safety practices, particularly around EV charging infrastructure and high-voltage systems.
- Coordinate with maintenance and operations teams to eliminate identified safety hazards.
- Ensure proper housekeeping standards are maintained throughout the depot.
- Monitor contractor safety and ensure compliance during maintenance and civil work activities.
- Conduct safety audits and ensure timely closure of audit observations.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly safety reports and submit them to management.
- Promote a positive safety culture by encouraging employee participation and reporting of unsafe conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree in Industrial Safety, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or other recognized safety certification will be plus.
- 0–2 years of experience in industrial, transport, automobile, or electric vehicle operations.
- Experience in electric bus depots or automotive workshops will be an added advantage.
