Profile- Unit Manager (Steel Industry)
Salary Range- ₹40,000 – ₹70,000per month
Job Purpose
To manage the overall operations of the assigned steel unit, ensuring smooth production, quality, safety, manpower utilization, cost control, and timely achievement of production targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and supervise day-to-day operations of the steel manufacturing/processing unit.
- Ensure achievement of daily, monthly, and annual production targets.
- Plan production schedules and ensure optimum utilization of manpower, machinery, and raw materials.
- Monitor production processes to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Stores, Purchase, Dispatch, and Accounts teams.
- Monitor raw material consumption, yield, wastage, and production losses.
- Ensure proper maintenance and availability of machinery and equipment in coordination with the Maintenance team.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards, production specifications, and customer requirements.
- Monitor inventory of raw materials, finished goods, consumables, and spare parts.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures, PPE requirements, and workplace safety standards.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Control operational costs and minimize material, energy, and production wastage.
- Manage and motivate workers, supervisors, and other unit staff.
- Monitor attendance, manpower productivity, discipline, and performance.
- Prepare daily/monthly MIS and production performance reports for management.
- Coordinate dispatch and ensure timely completion of customer orders.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, SOPs, statutory requirements, and environmental standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, quality, and profitability.
- Handle operational issues and provide timely solutions to management.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Graduate/Diploma/B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy, or a related field.
- 5–10 years of experience in steel manufacturing, fabrication, processing, rolling, or related operations.
- Experience in handling production teams and industrial operations.
- Strong knowledge of steel manufacturing/processing processes.
- Good understanding of production planning, quality control, maintenance, and safety.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and MIS reporting.
