Job Summary
The Operation Theatre Technician is responsible for assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff before, during, and after surgical procedures. The role involves preparing and maintaining operation theatres, sterilizing surgical instruments, ensuring the availability of required equipment and consumables, and supporting patient safety and infection control practices to facilitate smooth surgical operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperation Theatre Preparation
- Prepare operation theatres for scheduled surgeries as per established protocols.
- Ensure all surgical instruments, equipment, and consumables are available and functional before procedures.
- Arrange surgical instruments and supplies according to the type of surgery.
- Check and maintain OT lighting, suction apparatus, cautery machines, monitors, and other equipment.
Surgical Assistance
- Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff during surgical procedures.
- Provide required instruments and equipment promptly during operations.
- Assist in positioning patients safely for surgical procedures.
- Support the surgical team in maintaining a sterile environment throughout the procedure.
Sterilization & Infection Control
- Clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments and OT equipment.
- Follow infection prevention and control protocols strictly.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of sterile supplies.
- Monitor sterilization records and maintain documentation.
Equipment Maintenance
- Perform routine checks of OT equipment and report any malfunction immediately.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs with biomedical engineering teams.
- Maintain inventory of surgical instruments and equipment.
- Ensure emergency equipment is readily available and functional.
Inventory Management
- Monitor stock levels of surgical consumables and supplies.
- Maintain records of instrument usage and inventory.
- Coordinate with stores and procurement teams for replenishment of OT supplies.
- Minimize wastage of consumables through effective utilization.
Patient Care Support
- Assist in transferring patients to and from the operation theatre.
- Ensure patient identification and surgical safety protocols are followed.
- Support pre-operative and post-operative activities as directed by the clinical team.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain OT registers, sterilization logs, and equipment maintenance records.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, NABH standards, and infection control guidelines.
- Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and safety programs.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Operation Theatre Technology (OTT) or related allied health sciences.
- Certification in Operation Theatre Technology preferred.
- Registration with relevant healthcare authorities as applicable.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
