Job Summary
The Marine Fitter is responsible for the installation, repair, maintenance, and alignment of marine machinery, piping systems, propulsion equipment, and structural components onboard vessels and within the shipyard. The role requires ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company, customer, and classification society standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, dismantle, repair, and assemble marine machinery and mechanical equipment.
- Carry out fitting and alignment of pumps, valves, engines, gearboxes, shafts, bearings, and associated equipment.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on piping systems, flanges, supports, and mechanical assemblies.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, technical manuals, and work instructions.
- Conduct precision measurements using vernier calipers, micrometers, dial gauges, and alignment tools.
- Assist in dry dock, afloat, and onboard repair activities.
- Identify defects, recommend corrective actions, and report technical issues to supervisors.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, permit-to-work systems, and PPE requirements.
- Maintain housekeeping standards and proper care of tools and equipment.
- Coordinate with welding, piping, electrical, and production teams to complete projects within schedule.
Qualifications
- ITI / Diploma in Fitter, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical qualification.
- Additional marine or shipyard certifications are preferred.
Experience
- 2–5 years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, offshore, or heavy engineering industries.
- Experience working onboard vessels and in dry dock is preferred.
- Shipyard, dry dock, workshops, and onboard vessels.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
- Willingness to work overtime and shifts as per project requirements.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
