Job Summary:
The ICU Staff Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients while ensuring that the ICU remains clean, organized, well-equipped, and compliant with hospital infection control and patient safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:Patient Care
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients.
- Continuously monitor and record patients' vital signs and clinical status.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, injections, and blood products as prescribed.
- Assist doctors during emergency procedures, intubation, central line insertion, and other critical interventions.
- Operate and monitor ICU equipment such as ventilators, cardiac monitors, syringe pumps, infusion pumps, and defibrillators.
- Maintain accurate nursing documentation and patient records.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and Code Blue situations.
ICU Maintenance & Management
- Ensure ICU beds, monitors, ventilators, and other medical equipment are clean, functional, and ready for use.
- Perform daily checks of ICU equipment and immediately report any malfunction or repair requirement.
- Maintain adequate stock of medicines, emergency drugs, consumables, oxygen supplies, and ICU equipment.
- Follow Biomedical Waste Management (BMW) guidelines for proper waste segregation and disposal.
- Maintain ICU cleanliness and ensure strict infection control practices.
- Ensure crash cart, emergency trolley, suction apparatus, and oxygen supply are always available and functional.
- Coordinate with the Biomedical Engineering, Housekeeping, Pharmacy, and Maintenance departments for uninterrupted ICU operations.
- Ensure patient beds, linen, and surrounding areas are maintained according to hospital standards.
Infection Control
- Strictly follow hand hygiene and PPE protocols.
- Implement isolation precautions whenever required.
- Prevent hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) by following infection control guidelines.
- Report infection control concerns to the Nursing In-Charge.
Communication & Coordination
- Coordinate effectively with doctors, nursing staff, technicians, and other departments.
- Educate patients' attendants regarding ICU rules and patient care.
- Perform proper shift handover with complete patient and equipment status.
Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of ICU protocols and critical care nursing.
- Ability to operate ICU medical equipment.
- Excellent emergency response and critical thinking skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Knowledge of infection control and biomedical waste management.
- Ability to work under pressure and in rotational shifts.
Qualification
- GNM / B.Sc. Nursing (Mandatory)
- Valid State Nursing Council Registration.
Experience
- Minimum 1–3 years of ICU experience preferred.
- Freshers with ICU training may also apply.
Working Conditions
- Rotational Day/Night Shifts.
- 24×7 ICU environment.
- Weekly Off as per hospital policy.
Preferred Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Preferred
- Critical Care Nursing Certification (Preferred)
Pay: ₹12,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
