Job Summary
The Conventional Machine Operator is responsible for setting up and operating conventional machines to manufacture and repair precision components for tool room operations. The role involves machining mould components as per engineering drawings, ensuring dimensional accuracy, and maintaining required quality standards. The operator should have strong hands-on experience in conventional machining, precision measurement, and tool room support activities while working in a rotating shift environment.
Key Responsibilities
Reading and Understanding Drawings
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and 2D part drawings to understand dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements
- Understand process sequence and machining operations before job setup
Dimension Extraction from Drawings
- Extract critical dimensions from engineering drawings
- Identify machining references, datums, and tolerance requirements
- Plan machining operations accordingly
Conventional Machine Operation
- Independently operate conventional machines(individual machine skill also good) such as:
- Lathe Machine
- Milling Machine
- Drilling Machine
- Perform machining operations such as turning, milling, drilling, tapping, boring, and grinding
Job Setup and Machining
- Set up jobs accurately on machines using proper clamping methods
- Select suitable cutting tools and fixtures based on material and operation
- Ensure machine alignment and proper workpiece positioning
- Perform machining with required precision and finish
Mould Component Machining
- Machine mould parts including:
- Core inserts
- Cavity inserts
- Sliders
- Support plates
- Ejector plates
- Pins, bushes, and standard parts
Precision Measurement and Quality Control
- Use precision measuring instruments such as:
- Vernier caliper
- Micrometer
- Height gauge
- Dial gauge
- Slip gauge
- Ensure dimensional accuracy, flatness, parallelism, and squareness
- Inspect components during and after machining
- Maintain required tolerance as per drawings
Maintenance and Tool Room Support
- Support mould maintenance and repair work
- Assist in assembly fitting when required
- Perform routine machine maintenance and housekeeping
- Report machine issues or abnormalities to supervisor
Qualifications
- ITI / Diploma in Tool & Die Making/Diploma in Tool and Die Engineering/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering/Diploma in Precision machinist
- Relevant certification in machining is preferred
- 3–5 years of experience in conventional machining in tool room operations
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of conventional machining operations
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Knowledge of tool room practices and mould component manufacturing
- Experience with precision measuring instruments
- Understanding of machining tolerances and material properties
- Knowledge of cutting tools, fixtures, and machine setup
Preferred Skills
- Basic fitting knowledge
- Experience in plastic mould tool room environment
- Ability to handle urgent breakdown jobs
