Department: Engineering / Design
Reports To: Lead Engineer / Design Manager
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Purpose
The Wastewater Draughtsman is responsible for preparing detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for water and wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), pumping stations, sewerage networks, and sludge treatment facilities. This role requires transforming rough engineering sketches and process specifications into highly accurate, compliance-ready technical blueprints used for fabrication, permitting, and construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Modeling & Drafting: Develop detailed site layouts, general arrangements (GAs), structural concrete/steel drawings, and hydraulic profiles for wastewater treatment facilities.
- P&ID Development: Draft and maintain complex Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) based on data from process engineers.
- Piping & Routing Design: Design 3D piping networks, plant equipment placements, valve arrangements, and support structures, ensuring proper clearance, access, and compliance with industry standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate directly with civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers to resolve spatial clashes and ensure integrated multidisciplinary models (BIM).
- As-Built Updates: Revise existing schematics to reflect "as-built" conditions post-construction and manage version control within the company's document management system.
- Material Take-offs (MTO): Extract accurate bills of materials (BOMs) and equipment schedules directly from CAD models to assist the procurement and estimation teams.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Diploma or Degree in Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Environmental) or a certified certification in Drafting/CAD Technology.
- Software Proficiency:
- Expert level: AutoCAD (2D) and Revit, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or OpenPlant (3D).
- Highly valued: Experience working within a BIM (Building Information Modeling) framework.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong familiarity with wastewater-specific components like clarifiers, aeration tanks, pumps, chemical dosing systems, and anaerobic digesters.
- Technical Understanding: Ability to interpret complex process charts, understand pipe sizing/materials (e.g., HDPE, stainless steel, ductile iron), and read topographic/survey maps.
- Soft Skills: Strong spatial awareness, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to hit tight deadlines in a project-driven environment.
