In this role, we are looking for an R&D Engineer – System 800xA & Quality Control System (QCS) to join our Process Industries Digital Organization. You will contribute to the validation, testing, and lifecycle support of ABB System 800xA and Quality Control System (QCS) solutions, ensuring high-quality, reliable, and secure industrial automation software for the Pulp & Paper industry.
Working as part of a collaborative Agile engineering team, you will develop and execute comprehensive validation strategies, perform end-to-end system integration testing, and collaborate with Product Management, Development, Commissioning, and global R&D teams to deliver robust automation solutions while driving continuous quality improvements.
This role is contributing to the Process Industries – System 800xA & QCS Research & Development organization in Bangalore, India.

Develop and execute comprehensive validation strategies for System 800xA and Quality Control System (QCS) solutions by performing functional, integration, regression, system, cybersecurity, and end-to-end testing to ensure product quality, reliability, and compliance with ABB engineering standards.

Validate industrial automation solutions by testing DCS integrations, QCS control strategies, process parameters, alarm management, historical data, industrial communication, and overall system performance across diverse operating scenarios.

Collaborate with Product Management, Software Development, Commissioning, and global R&D teams to manage defect lifecycles, support release readiness, participate in Agile ceremonies, and deliver high-quality software using modern testing methodologies, Azure DevOps, and AI-assisted engineering practices.

Drive engineering excellence by developing test automation frameworks, improving validation processes, mentoring team members, maintaining technical documentation, supporting customer demonstrations, and promoting continuous improvement initiatives.

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

5–10 years of experience in software testing or validation for Industrial Automation, DCS, PLC, SCADA, or Quality Control Systems, with hands-on experience in ABB System 800xA, AC 800M, and Control Builder M.

Strong knowledge of software testing methodologies including functional, system, integration, regression, simulation, and end-to-end validation, along with experience using Azure DevOps, Git/TFS, and test automation frameworks.

Experience with Quality Control Systems (QCS), DCS integration, industrial process control, and Pulp & Paper applications is preferred, with knowledge of IEC 61131-3 programming and industrial automation architectures.

Understanding of Industrial Cybersecurity (IEC 62443), automated testing practices, AI-assisted testing tools, and Agile software development methodologies is considered an advantage.

Professional certifications such as ISTQB Foundation Level or equivalent testing certifications are preferred.

Strong analytical, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional global teams and drive continuous quality improvement initiatives.
