The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:
Participate in the accounting aspects of various global locations of Russell Investments in close coordination with local and regional managers / controllers
Provide support and analysis of transactions impacting the business by gaining a comprehensive understanding of transaction flow and dependencies; ensuring recordings are consistent with US GAAP.
Own the revenue lifecycle: Lead the accurate recognition, calculation, and invoicing of management fees, ETF billing streams, and performance-based fee structures.
Apply business context: Review institutional investor mandates and Fund agreements to validate tiered fee models, asset-under-management (AUM) inputs, and complex rebate frameworks.
Manage corporate accruals: Drive the month-end and year-end close processes by calculating, justifying, and posting complex revenue accruals, expense reclassifications, and strategic adjustments.
Process Excellence: Ensure processes are supported by appropriate SOPs that are reviewed and modified for relevance in a timely manner. Ensuring that SOPs are self explanatory, provides context and helps process transitions between team members. Review processes for enhancing efficiencies, accuracies and internal controls
Prepare journal entries and reconciliations across various accounting functions. This includes effective self-review of work performed, researching discrepancies, and ensuring deadlines are met. This may include the effective review of work performed by others.
Support the month-end and year-end close process by ensuring journal entries are recorded timely and accurately, performing variance analysis and balance sheet reviews and other accounting tasks as required.
Prepare and/or process client and vendor invoices (payables and/or receivables) to ensure timely and accurate payment or cash receipt and recording in the general ledger. Identify outliers and proactively seek resolution.
Partner with internal stakeholders to resolve accounting issues, improve processes, and support operational efficiency and maintain effective working relationships with cross-functional teams and global stakeholders
Assist with internal and external audit requests and ensure appropriate supporting documentation is maintained.
Exercise integrity and confidentiality in financial reporting and comply with national and local financial requirements.
Participate and lead accounting projects as needed.
Guide junior team members as needed
The successful candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:
5- 7+ years professional experience in accounting (experience in fund operations may also be considered). Investment industry experience be strong advantage
Sound knowledge of accounting fundamentals and principles
A minimum of Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting
Strong verbal and written communication skills
MS Office Suite skill set, with Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Experience or familiarity with month-end close processes in order to understand key transactions and interactions
Familiarity with multi-currency transactions
Strong team player with willingness to assist others in the department as needed, including performing simple or manual, repetitive tasks
Excellent time management, prioritization, organizational, and leadership skills
Strong attention to detail; meticulous attention to quality of work product
Ability to work independently with little supervision on projects
Ability to work under pressure and to manage deadlines, without sacrificing quality.
Proficient understanding of US GAAP, IFRS a plus
Basic knowledge of the Asset Management industry
