Job Title: Accountant – Ship & Crew Management
Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accountant with experience in ship and crew management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in vessel accounting, financial reporting, and maritime operations. This role is responsible for managing vessel-related financial transactions, crew payroll accounting, budget monitoring, and ensuring compliance with company policies and maritime industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate vessel accounts, including income, expenses, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Process and monitor vessel operating expenses and prepare monthly vessel financial reports.
- Manage crew-related accounting, including payroll, travel expenses, allotments, and reimbursements.
- Review and reconcile port disbursement accounts (PDAs) and vendor invoices.
- Monitor vessel budgets and analyze variances against actual expenditures.
- Coordinate with vessel managers, crewing teams, and operations departments on financial matters.
- Ensure timely payment of suppliers, agents, and crew-related expenses.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Maintain compliance with company financial policies, accounting standards, and audit requirements.
- Support external and internal audits by providing required financial documentation.
- Prepare management reports and assist with financial forecasting and budgeting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the maritime or shipping industry.
- Experience in ship and crew management is required.
- Vessel accounting experience is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of vessel operating costs, crew payroll, PDAs, and maritime financial processes.
- Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with maritime ERP systems such as Danaos, ShipNet, ABS NS5, or similar vessel accounting software.
- Professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent) is an advantage.
- Experience working with international shipping companies or ship management firms.
