Job Summary
The Microsoft 365 (M365) Engineer is responsible for systems architecture, needs analysis, and troubleshooting within the M365 technology stack to ensure high availability and security of all business applications. This individual also takes part in the planning and implementing of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning, ongoing maintenance, and security are consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. The engineer will work together with the Microsoft Product owner to determine the appropriate strategy for all M365 related technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
Acts as the primary technical contact and subject matter expert for the M365 technology stack, which includes Azure Active Directory, Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, Intune Endpoint Manager, Purview Compliance Center, and Microsoft 365 Defender, along with emerging Microsoft technologies.
Perform and support capacity planning to aid in the development of long-term strategic goals for the enterprise messaging and collaboration environments.
Perform cloud security analysis, evaluate configurations, and provide recommendations for the platform based on adopted enterprise cyber security framework.
Work with the Microsoft Product Owner to formulate and develop a backlog and release timeline of features and capabilities as technologies are available from Microsoft.
Design, engineer, and document end-to-end solutions based on Microsoft 365 technologies and business driven requirements.
Lead the implementation and deployment of Microsoft 365 solutions, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards. Provide expert guidance and support to development teams, administrators, and end-users on Microsoft 365 technologies, best practices, and governance. Conduct assessments and audits of existing Microsoft 365 environments, identifying areas for improvement and recommending optimization strategies. Collaborate with security and compliance teams to ensure Microsoft 365 solutions meet data protection, privacy, and regulatory requirements.

Skill Requirements
7+ years of experience with email systems and directory services including Exchange, Office 365, Active Directory, and Azure Active Directory.
5+ years of experience with the Microsoft M365 platform and associated technologies such as Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive
3+ years of experience in Microsoft related security and identity management technologies such as Purview, Privileged Identity Management, and Defender
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft and Azure supported scripting technologies, such as PowerShell.
Advanced understanding of technology infrastructure and server topology; comprehensive knowledge of hardware, software, application, and systems engineering.
Excellent communication skills (written and oral); ability to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people may understand.
Related Microsoft 365 or other relevant Microsoft certifications.
