The RMC Chemical & Cement Technologist is responsible for ensuring the quality, performance, and optimization of cementitious materials, concrete admixtures, and ready-mix concrete products. The role involves testing raw materials, designing concrete mixes, evaluating chemical admixtures, troubleshooting concrete-related issues, and supporting production teams to achieve consistent product quality and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities1. Raw Material Evaluation
- Conduct testing and evaluation of cement, fly ash, GGBS, aggregates, water, and chemical admixtures.
- Verify compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
- Monitor variability in raw materials and recommend corrective actions.
2. Concrete Mix Design & Optimization
- Develop and optimize concrete mix designs for various grades and applications.
- Evaluate workability, strength, durability, and cost efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications and project requirements.
3. Chemical Admixture Management
- Assess performance of plasticizers, superplasticizers, retarders, accelerators, and specialty admixtures.
- Conduct compatibility studies between cement and admixtures.
- Recommend suitable dosage and application methods.
4. Quality Control & Assurance
- Implement quality control procedures for fresh and hardened concrete.
- Analyze test results and identify quality trends.
- Maintain calibration and validation of laboratory equipment.
- Ensure compliance with IS, ASTM, EN, or other applicable standards.
5. Technical Troubleshooting
- Investigate issues related to slump loss, setting time, strength variation, cracking, segregation, and durability.
- Provide technical solutions to production and site teams.
- Conduct root cause analysis and preventive action planning.
6. Research & Development
- Participate in development of new concrete products and sustainable concrete solutions.
- Evaluate alternative cementitious materials and innovative admixtures.
- Conduct laboratory and field trials.
7. Site & Customer Support
- Provide technical assistance to customers and project sites.
- Monitor concrete performance during placement and curing.
- Address customer complaints and technical queries.
8. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare technical reports, test certificates, and quality records.
- Maintain laboratory documentation and compliance records.
- Present technical findings to management and customers.
Required QualificationsEducation
- B.Tech/B.E. in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field.
- M.Tech/M.Sc. in Concrete Technology, Construction Materials, Cement Technology, or Chemical Engineering preferred.
Experience
- 5–12 years of experience in Ready-Mix Concrete, Cement Industry, Construction Chemicals, or Concrete Admixture Industry.
- Experience in concrete mix design and quality control preferred.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of concrete technology and cement chemistry.
- Understanding of hydration mechanisms and admixture interactions.
- Proficiency in mix design methodologies.
- Familiarity with IS 10262, IS 456, IS 383, ASTM, EN, and related standards.
