Role Overview
The Marine Networking Engineer will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of networking systems onboard vessels and marine platforms.
The role involves ensuring reliable ship-to-shore communications, vessel IT infrastructure, and integration of navigation, automation, and monitoring systems with secure networking solutions.
Key Responsibilities
· Design, deploy, and maintain marine IT & networking infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless systems.
· Integrate shipboard communication systems (VSAT, Inmarsat, FleetBroadband, LTE/5G, radio links) with onboard networks.
· Configure and support VLANs, VPNs, IP routing, and firewall policies for vessel networks.
· Maintain redundant and secure connectivity between ship and shore offices.
· Provide Level 1 technical support for onboard network and connectivity issues and escalate unresolved technical issues to senior engineers, OEMs, or service providers.
· Support integration of navigation, automation, CCTV, and monitoring systems into vessel IT networks.
· Prepare network documentation, diagrams, and configuration records for each vessel.
· Conduct training for onboard crew on basic IT and network usage.
· Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and internal teams for project execution.
· Perform structured cabling, cable termination, labeling, and basic rack management.
· Travel to ports, shipyards, and offshore vessels as required. (Field Service Technician)
Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Electronics, IT, Telecommunications, or Marine Engineering.
- Certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent are highly desirable.
- Knowledge of marine communication systems (VSAT, Inmarsat, GMDSS, etc.) is an advantage.
Experience:
- 0-2 years’ experience in network administration/engineering, preferably in marine or offshore environments.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco / Mikrotik / Fortinet / similar networking equipment.
- Exposure to maritime IT systems, PLC integration, and marine electronics preferred.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, firewalls, and network security.
- Familiarity with marine IT protocols and satellite communication systems. Will be added Advantage
- Ability to work independently onboard ships, offshore platforms, and remote locations.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
Other Information
- Willingness to travel frequently as on required.
- Flexible to work in rotational shifts / emergency call-outs.
- Must hold a valid passport.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
