The Gynecology OT Nurse is responsible for providing safe and efficient perioperative nursing care to gynecological and obstetric patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. The nurse assists the surgical team, maintains OT standards, ensures proper sterilization and infection control, and supports patient safety throughout the procedure.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare the Operation Theatre (OT) before scheduled procedures and ensure all required equipment, instruments, medicines, and supplies are available.
- Receive and prepare patients for surgery, verify patient identity, consent, procedure, investigations, and pre-operative checklist.
- Provide pre-operative nursing care and ensure the patient is appropriately prepared for surgery.
- Assist the surgeon and anesthetist during gynecological and obstetric procedures.
- Perform duties as scrub nurse and circulating nurse according to OT requirements.
- Prepare and maintain sterile instruments, surgical sets, gowns, gloves, drapes, and consumables.
- Maintain strict aseptic and sterile techniques throughout surgical procedures.
- Assist with procedures such as cesarean section, hysterectomy, D&C/MTP, laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, ovarian procedures, and other gynecological surgeries, according to hospital services.
- Perform accurate instrument, needle, sponge, and swab counts before, during, and after surgery.
- Handle surgical specimens appropriately, label them correctly, and send them to the laboratory/pathology department as required.
- Assist the anesthetist with patient positioning, monitoring, airway equipment, and emergency requirements as directed.
- Monitor the patient's condition during surgery and immediately report any abnormal findings or emergencies.
- Ensure proper functioning and availability of OT equipment, surgical instruments, cautery, suction, anesthesia equipment, and monitoring devices.
- Maintain OT cleanliness, infection-control standards, and proper biomedical waste segregation and disposal.
- Follow sterilization and disinfection protocols for surgical instruments and equipment.
- Prepare the OT for emergency surgeries and respond promptly to emergency situations.
- Maintain accurate OT registers, surgical records, instrument counts, sterilization records, implant/consumable records, and patient documentation.
- Assist with safe transfer of patients from OT to the recovery room/PACU or ward after surgery.
- Provide appropriate post-operative handover to the receiving nurse.
- Check and maintain OT stock, emergency medicines, surgical consumables, and sterile supplies.
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, CSSD, laboratory, pharmacy, and other departments.
- Report any equipment malfunction, surgical-site contamination, medication error, incident, or other safety concern to the appropriate senior staff.
- Participate in OT audits, infection-control activities, training, quality-improvement programs, and emergency drills.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and safety at all times.
Pay: ₹14,000.00 - ₹16,000.00 per month
