Freelance Plant Control Systems Design Engineer – Gas/Hydrogen Systems
A hands-on Plant Control Systems Design Engineer is required to support modular gas and hydrogen projects in North America.
The engineer will work within an international multidisciplinary engineering team and will be directly responsible for the plant control-system discipline. This includes personally developing the control design, drawings and technical documentation—not only reviewing or managing the work.
Key responsibilities
- Develop the plant control philosophy and control-system architecture.
- Design PLC, SCADA/HMI, ESD, fire-and-gas and communication systems.
- Develop operating sequences, control narratives and equipment-control logic.
- Prepare cause-and-effect, alarm, interlock, permissive and shutdown matrices.
- Produce control-system architecture drawings, network diagrams and panel layouts.
- Produce I/O lists, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, termination drawings and cable schedules.
- Design PLC and control panels, including power distribution and communication interfaces.
- Review and mark up P&IDs to ensure all control requirements are captured.
- Develop operator-screen requirements and SCADA/HMI layouts.
- Coordinate instrumentation selection and integration.
- Support PLC programming, FAT, SAT, commissioning and troubleshooting.
- Coordinate with process, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation engineers.
Discipline responsibility
The engineer will take direct responsibility for the quality, coordination and timely delivery of all plant control-system designs, drawings, calculations and technical documents.
All final engineering deliverables will be reviewed and approved, where required, by the P.Eng. responsible for the applicable regional jurisdiction.
Minimum requirements
- Engineering qualification in controls, automation, instrumentation, electrical or electronic engineering.
- Proven plant control-system design experience within gas processing, industrial gases, oil and gas, chemical or modular process facilities.
- Demonstrated ability to personally produce complete control-system drawing packages.
- Experience with PLC, SCADA/HMI, industrial networks, ESD and fire-and-gas systems.
- Working knowledge of applicable North American codes and standards.
- Hydrogen experience is preferred.
- Professional-level written and spoken English.
- Ability to work independently within an international engineering team and meet firm delivery dates.
This is not solely an instrumentation-selection, drafting or PLC-programming role. The successful engineer must be able to develop the complete plant control-system design from P&IDs through fabrication, programming, installation and commissioning.
Engagement
- Fully remote independent-contractor position.
- Initially part-time for approximately 12 weeks.
- Flexible hours with short, structured coordination meetings.
- A paid two-week control-design assessment will form part of the selection process.
Applicants must provide examples of plant control systems personally designed, including the drawings produced, PLC/SCADA platforms used, project type and their specific responsibilities.
Pay: ₹1,000.00 - ₹1,350.00 per hour
Work Location: Remote
