ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Duties & Responsibilities
● Fabricate, assemble, and repair injection moulds, dies, jigs, and fixtures as per engineering drawings and specifications.
● Interpret 2D/3D drawings and translate them into precise tool components with tight tolerances.
● Operate CNC, VMC, EDM, wire-cut, surface grinders, lathes, and milling machines for tool making and repair activities.
● Carry out trial runs of new and modified moulds and troubleshoot moulding defects such as flash, short shots, and warping.
● Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance of moulds to minimize production downtime.
● Polish, fit, and assemble mould components to achieve required tolerance, alignment, and surface finish.
● Coordinate with design and production teams for mould modifications and corrective actions.
● Maintain tool room records including mould history cards, spare parts inventory, and maintenance schedules.
● Ensure strict adherence to safety standards during tool making and repair activities.
● Mentor and guide junior toolmakers and trainees on the shop floor.
Skill Set Required
● Strong hands-on experience in mould making, fitting, and precision tooling.
● Proficiency in reading GD&T, engineering drawings, and mould assembly drawings.
● Expertise in operating CNC, VMC, EDM, wire-cut, surface grinder, and jig boring machines.
● Knowledge of mould materials (P20, H13, S136, NAK80) and heat treatment processes.
● Familiarity with mould components – cores, cavities, ejector systems, runner/gating systems, and cooling systems.
● Strong troubleshooting skills for injection moulding process-related defects.
● Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software (NX, Pro-E, MasterCAM) is an added advantage.
● Good measurement and inspection skills using micrometers, verniers, height gauges, and CMM.
Educational Qualification Required
● ITI / Diploma in Tool & Die Making or Mechanical/Production Engineering.
● Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical/Tool Engineering preferred.
● Formal apprenticeship or certification in Tool & Die Making is desirable.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
● Mould build/repair turnaround time (TAT) versus plan.
● First-time-right mould trial success rate.
● Reduction in mould breakdown/downtime hours.
● Number of moulding defects attributable to tooling issues.
● Adherence to preventive maintenance schedule (%).
●Cost savings achieved through in-house tool repair versus outsourcing.
Salary is negotiable based on relevant experience and skill set.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
