Mechanical Design Engineer – MEP Projects
We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) projects to be responsible for mechanical system design, calculations, drawings, coordination, and technical documentation for building projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical MEP systems for commercial, residential, industrial, and other building projects.
- Prepare HVAC, ventilation, chilled water, plumbing, and firefighting layouts as applicable to the project scope.
- Perform HVAC load calculations, equipment selection, duct sizing, pipe sizing, and pressure-drop calculations.
- Prepare detailed 2D drawings and 3D BIM models using AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar software.
- Develop equipment schedules, material specifications, design calculations, BOQs, and technical submittals.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire-fighting disciplines.
- Review shop drawings, contractor drawings, and technical submittals.
- Identify and resolve design clashes and site-related technical issues.
- Participate in design reviews, coordination meetings, and client/consultant discussions.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable ASHRAE, SMACNA, NBC, local codes, and project specifications.
- Support site teams during installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Conduct site inspections and verify that installations comply with approved drawings and specifications.
- Maintain project documentation and ensure deliverables are completed within project schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree/diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Typically 2–8 years of experience in mechanical MEP design, depending on the position level.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC and building mechanical systems.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Revit MEP; knowledge of Navisworks/BIM coordination is an advantage.
- Good understanding of mechanical design calculations and engineering principles.
- Knowledge of relevant international/local codes and standards.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.
- Good coordination, communication, problem-solving, and project-management skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with high-rise buildings, commercial buildings, hospitals, data centers, industrial facilities, or residential projects.
- Knowledge of BIM workflows and clash detection.
- Familiarity with design software such as HAP, DuctSizer, Pipe Sizer, or equivalent tools.
- Experience preparing BOQs, specifications, and tender documentation.
- Ability to independently handle mechanical design packages from concept through construction.
