Position: Biodiversity Conservation Manager

With over three decades of experience, NEWS integrates scientific research, community engagement, and stakeholder collaboration to develop sustainable solutions for ecosystem and biodiversity conservation.
Essential Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Zoology or allied disciplines such as Ecology, Wildlife Biology, Forestry, Environmental Science, Marine Biology, or related fields.
- Minimum 4–5 years of relevant professional experience in biodiversity conservation, wildlife conservation, ecosystem restoration, ecological research, or related fields.
- Strong knowledge of biodiversity, ecology, wildlife and ecosystem dynamics.
- Demonstrated experience in field-based conservation, project coordination and team management.
- Experience in biodiversity assessment, habitat restoration, ecological monitoring and community-based conservation.
- Familiarity with GIS mapping, biodiversity assessment, ecological monitoring and data analysis will be preferred.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder coordination, communication, documentation and team management skills.
- Willingness to undertake extensive field travel and work in remote locations and challenging environmental conditions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Biodiversity Conservation & Ecological Monitoring
- Lead and coordinate biodiversity conservation and habitat restoration initiatives.
- Conduct and supervise biodiversity surveys, ecological assessments and field monitoring.
- Monitor biodiversity indicators and assess threats to habitats and ecosystems.
- Develop and implement conservation strategies and management plans.
- Support ecosystem restoration and climate-resilient conservation initiatives.
2. Research, Mapping & Data Analysis
- Conduct biodiversity assessments and ecological studies.
- Support GIS-based mapping and spatial documentation of biodiversity and habitats.
- Develop species inventories, monitoring protocols, SOPs and conservation strategies.
- Analyse ecological data and prepare technical reports and knowledge products.
- Document research findings, best practices and lessons learned.
3. Community Engagement & Capacity Building
- Organise and facilitate training and awareness programmes for local communities and other stakeholders on biodiversity conservation and environmental management.
- Strengthen community participation and stewardship in conservation initiatives.
- Promote community-based conservation and sustainable natural resource management.
4. Policy & Stakeholder Engagement
- Coordinate with government departments, research institutions, NGOs, academic institutions and other stakeholders.
- Liaise with relevant government and local institutions to support conservation activities and obtain necessary approvals.
- Represent NEWS in workshops, consultations, policy dialogues and conferences related to biodiversity conservation.
5. Project Management, Team Coordination & Documentation
- Coordinate project implementation and ensure timely completion of planned activities and deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance and supervision to project officers, field teams, interns and other project personnel.
- Monitor project progress, outputs and conservation outcomes.
- Prepare progress reports, technical reports, impact assessments, donor reports and funding proposals.
- Maintain project documentation and relevant databases.
- Document success stories, best practices and lessons learned.
Benefits
✔ Gross Salary: ₹40,000–₹45,000 per month (based on experience and qualifications)
✔ Contract Period: Initially one year, extendable based on performance
