Your role and responsibilities

This role is contributing to theAC800M Control library development, testing, validation, and lifecycle support within ABB industrial automation and safety systems in the Bangalore location and will report to R&D Team Manager. Main stakeholders are the Product Management group and Engineering group.
You will be mainly accountable for:

Working as an independent and reliable contributor in R&D projects with limited supervision.

Performing various tasks in the assigned area from building concepts, gathering requirements to designing, implementing, integrating, testing, technology transfer or maintenance, and operations.

Understanding and applying applicable processes, standards, guidelines, and requirements, including architectural and design constraints.
-
Driving the achievement of assigned targets (quality, time, scope, cost) and raising and addressing risks.

Design, develop, maintain, and validate control library components used within ABB automation and safety solutions.

Develop reusable control modules, function blocks, communication interfaces, and engineering components in accordance with ABB engineering and safety standards.

Perform impact analysis, compatibility assessments, and technical evaluations for product upgrades, platform changes, and library releases.

Plan, execute, and review function testing, product integration testing, regression testing, release acceptance testing, and compatibility testing activities.

Investigate and resolve complex technical issues through structured analysis, troubleshooting, and root-cause identification.

Drive quality improvements by identifying risks early and implementing preventive actions throughout the development and validation lifecycle.

Participate in technical reviews of requirements, design specifications, Description of Function (DOF), test documentation, and release deliverables.

Collaborate with architects, developers, testers, safety engineers, product owners, and global R&D teams to deliver robust and compliant solutions.

Mentor and guide engineers within the domain by sharing technical knowledge, best practices, lessons learned, and reusable approaches.

Contribute to innovation initiatives through technical improvements, reusable solutions, invention disclosures, and intellectual property development.

Monitor developments in related technologies, tools, methodologies, and industrial automation domains and apply relevant learnings within daily engineering activities.

Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools to improve testing efficiency, documentation quality, defect analysis, knowledge sharing, and engineering productivity.

Support release readiness activities including consistency checks, release validation, upgrade verification, documentation reviews, and quality assessments.

Contribute actively to continuous improvement initiatives related to product quality, engineering processes, testing effectiveness, and development productivity.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation, or a related engineering discipline.

6–10 years of industrial automation, control systems, software development, testing, or functional safety experience.

Strong experience with ABB DCS System 800xA, AC 800M, Control Builder M, and control libraries
Proficiency in IEC 61131-3 Structured Text programming language
Preferable to have knowledge on IEC 61508
Experience in Azure DevOps tools usage will add advantage
Proven experience in control library development, testing, validation, or maintenance activities.
Experience performing impact analysis, regression testing, integration testing, release acceptance testing, and product quality improvements.

Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems independently and contribute across multiple engineering disciplines.

Experience mentoring engineers and promoting technical best practices.

Experience contributing to innovation activities, invention disclosures, intellectual property development, or reusable engineering solutions.

Experience using AI-powered engineering tools to improve productivity, quality, documentation, testing, and knowledge management.
