Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Consultations
- Take Histories: Document detailed patient medical, lifestyle, and family histories during OPD hours.
- Vitals & Testing: Check blood pressure, measure BMI, and interpret point-of-care HbA1c results.
- Foot Screenings: Perform routine diabetic foot exams using monofilaments to check for neuropathy.
Treatment & Monitoring
- Review Logs: Analyze patient blood glucose logs, continuous glucose monitor (CGM) data, and insulin pump reports.
- Medication Titration: Assist the consultant in adjusting oral hypoglycemic drugs and basal-bolus insulin regimens.
- Prescription Support: Draft prescriptions and follow-up schedules for the senior doctor's final approval. [1]
Education & Counseling
- Device Training: Teach patients how to use glucometers, injection pens, and sensor insertion techniques.
- Hypoglycemia Care: Counsel patients and families on identifying and treating low blood sugar emergencies.
- Lifestyle Advice: Provide basic guidance on carbohydrate counting, meal timing, and safe exercise habits. [1, 2, 3]
