Job Description – Fitter (Industrial Automation)
Job Summary
The Fitter is responsible for mechanical fitting, assembly, installation, and alignment of industrial automation systems, machine structures, conveyors, pneumatic systems, and related equipment. The role involves interpreting engineering drawings, supporting machine building activities, and ensuring quality workmanship during assembly and installation.
Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Assembly & Fitting
- Assemble machine structures, automation systems, and mechanical components as per engineering drawings.
- Perform fitting, drilling, tapping, cutting, grinding, and alignment activities.
- Install linear guides, bearings, motors, couplings, conveyors, cylinders, and other mechanical components.
- Carry out machine modification and fabrication support activities.
Pneumatic & Automation Support
- Assist in pneumatic tubing and component mounting.
- Support PLC panel installation and cable routing activities.
- Coordinate with electrical and automation teams during machine assembly.
Installation & Commissioning Support
- Assist in onsite machine erection and installation activities.
- Support trial runs, machine alignment, and commissioning activities.
- Rectify fitting and assembly issues during machine testing.
Drawing Interpretation & Quality
- Read and understand mechanical drawings and assembly layouts.
- Ensure assembly work meets dimensional and quality requirements.
- Maintain proper tolerance and alignment standards.
Maintenance & Housekeeping
- Maintain tools, equipment, and workplace cleanliness.
- Follow preventive maintenance practices for assembly tools.
- Ensure safe handling of materials and equipment.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow company safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Adhere to quality standards and company policies.
- Report unsafe conditions and equipment issues immediately.
Required Qualifications
- ITI / Diploma in Fitter, Mechanical, or related trade.
- 1–5 years of experience in machine assembly or industrial automation industry preferred.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of mechanical fitting and assembly practices.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings.
- Basic knowledge of pneumatic systems.
- Familiarity with hand tools and power tools.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
