PLC Programmer designs, develops, codes, tests, and maintains control systems for industrial automation, using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to run machinery like assembly lines, ensuring processes are efficient, reliable, and meet production goals by writing logic (often ladder logic), troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with engineering teams. Key tasks include creating schematics, debugging, updating programs, documenting systems, and providing technical support for automated processes across various industries. Key Responsibilities
- Design & Development: Create logic and programs for PLCs, HMIs, and related systems based on project needs.
- Coding: Write and implement control software, primarily using ladder logic, but also other PLC languages.
- Testing & Commissioning: Test, simulate, install, and debug programs to ensure proper machine function.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues in automated systems to minimize downtime.
- Documentation: Create and maintain schematics, programming procedures, and system documentation.
- Collaboration: Work with engineers, technicians, and project managers to define requirements and integrate systems.
- Optimization: Modify and improve existing programs for better performance and efficiency.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Proficiency in PLC programming languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, FBD).
- Understanding of industrial protocols and communication networks.
- Knowledge of electrical circuits, schematics, and control systems.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Experience with specific PLC brands (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell) may be required.
